Yes, that's he.

A decade after that phenomenal innings against the West Indians, he is now part of the US national T20 team.

He is not yet eligible to play for national team. I think there is an ICC rule of 3 years of cooling period.

I think you are right, based on this Jan month article, he is supposed to be eligible to represent USA by March ‘24

Chand is set to be eligible to play for the USA in March 2024, three months before the World Cup begins in the Caribbean and the States. Having retired from all forms of cricket in India in September 2021, he has almost fulfilled the eligibility criteria of staying in the USA for 10 months in a year for three years.

Re: The Cricket Thread

It's very evident that the Indian cricket fan is the financial driving force in world cricket and as such the Indian cricket team is the main revenue generator for cricket, at any venue. From an article in The Print:

"Others have gone to marketplaces like StubHub, where, as of 1 May, India-Pakistan tickets started at $1,400 and went up to $70,000; Sri Lanka versus Scotland began at $35."

Just thought the numbers give a picture of why the Indian cricket team can call the shots, irrespective of our actual performance on the world stage. And essential to that is the presence of brand-name stars in the team. Also, at those relative numbers, it's why the 'development' of associate teams will never be a priority.

(Not linking to the article because it goes in to a different angle that will probably go into off-cricket topic posts.)

Re: The Cricket Thread

Does anyone remember we still have president for BCCI. Ever since Jay shah was appointed as Secretary looks like president is just dummy. I don't even remember seeing him in any of the events. We use to have strong presidents like Dalmia, Srinivasan, Bindra etc.,

Re: The Cricket Thread

And in some cases, the President is also ensuring the Selectors/Chief Selector
are/is dummy (remember how he announced Rohit to be the Captain in T20I world cup, well in advance, without letting selectors do it)

This is largely an India-centric phenomenon in this sport. I bought tickets for Ind v Pak at MCG in the last T20 WC (yes, THE match) for Rs 1250/- for self and Rs 500/- for my son. Heck! IPL tickets here sell for 50 times that. Again, recently saw a NBA game featuring the home team - Washington Wizards. Got tickets for 28$ a month before the game (On game night, they were 100$+). I think this level of craze is only matched in UK for the EPL.

James Anderson set to end Test career

Quote:
James Anderson looks set to retire from international cricket at the end of England's home summer.
Quote:
Anderson became the third man to reach 700 Test wickets earlier this year in the final match of England's tour to India...
Quote:
He will turn 42 at the end of England's three-match series against West Indies in July, and could bow out during their subsequent three-match series against Sri Lanka
Source: ESPN Cricinfo

"Legend" gets thrown around casually these days, but James Anderson exemplifies it. Take a bow, James Anderson!

BCCI is a joke. They invited head coach applications through Google Forms.

Waste of time for applicants. They will select VVS in the end. Can't understand how can someone who was so terrible in white ball format can be a white ball coach. In tests he can do good. It's time India opts for specialist coaches according to format but bcci as usual is Incompetent.

Beware dear friend, beware!

Now that you have predicted this, please remember Omar Khayyam's immortal lines:
Quote:
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

On a serious note, I am rooting for a surprise, outsider entry. Will it be too much to expect someone in the mould of Gary Kirsten to grace the position?

I don’t think any outsider is there who can garner same respect as Gary and he already been appointed as the new coach of Pakistan on a 2 year contract. Given the history of Pakistan, I am not sure it will last that long.

Edit : Rumors are that Stephen Fleming is in the fray.
