Re: The Cricket Thread

ENG vs SL 3rd test:
SL need just 125 to win with 9 wickets in hand and full 2 days, hope they don't mess it up, all the best.

Was watching the match yesterday and English bowlers felt below par or looked tried at the fag end of the day and bowling looked toothless without any plans of dislodging the batsmen, nothing to take away from SL batting in the 4th innings, Nissanka was playing beautifully with the straight bat and attacking at every given opportunity.

Would be interesting day of play with fresh bowling legs.

I'm more interested to see the Afghans battle the Kiwis in Noida. Let's hope the rains stay away and an undeprepared outfield does not play spoiler. I'd love it if it is a competitive game.

I don't think KL Rahul deserves a call back into the test squad. His performance in the Duleep Trophy has not been great. May be this is the Gautam Gambhir impression on the squad/

Oh man, thanks so much for posting! Wasn't following this match, thought it would be another easy victory for England. At least I got to follow the last day.

What a victory for SL! I hope they build on this and regain some of their former glory.

Sarafarz will warm the bench again with KL playing at 5. Considering the squad is for the first test, they can let Dhruv, Sarfaraz, Kuldeep, Akashdeep & Dayal play along side Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill, Virat, Ashwin and Bhumrah.

Most likely, Ashwin and Jadeja will be part of the final eleven. However, I think we should play Axar in place of one of them. He has performed well in recent matches for India, and we should include him with an eye on the future.

Similarly, I agree that Sarfaraz most likely won't be part of the final eleven, but he should be considered for future team building.

Jadeja is the one I'd drop since both Kuldeep and Axar have been performing better than Jadeja both with the bat and the ball.

Axar is 30 already. It’s unfair on Axar but I think we should be looking at someone younger to replace Jadeja long term.

True, but if we have to think long term, we need to look for options to replace both Ashwin (37 years old) and Jadeja (35 years old).

Between Kuldeep and Axar, Axar has performed better with both bat and ball in recent matches, hence I suggested his name.

I remember a match between Australia and India played down under and man of the match got the prize "Shoe Laces" and our own commentator Sunny Ji made so much fun of CA on air

Meanwhile just today came to know that India made 1.39B dollars out of 2023 ODI World Cup. No doubt the players are busy grabbing their share of pie and Jr. Shah got the red carpet at ICC chairmanship. BCCI is indeed the power house of this era.

The tourism sector played a crucial role in this economic surge, generating $861.4 million from accommodation, travel, and food services.
International tourists alone contributed $281.2 million to the economy.
The report also revealed that nearly 19% of international attendees were visiting India for the first time. Notably, 68% of the same recommended India as a tourist destination.

Reminds me of the '83 World Cup, I think during the SF match Kirti Azad took an important wicket, enthusiastic fans ran on to the field, and one of them shoved a 50 Pound note in his pocket, he was so elated.

After winning the '83 final, each player was given 25K as prize money by BCCI, We sure have come a long way.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India tottering at 145/6 as I type against Bangladesh in the ongoing Chennai test. Ashwin and Jadeja at the crease with all frontline batters back in the hut.

What are we going to do in the five upcoming tests in Australia with this team?

So far, it looks like tough conditions to bat on. Apart from Pant, all dismissals have been due to disciplined bowling.

If it goes in the 4th innings, then Chennai pitch would be a death trap for BD, they took a high risk by putting India to bat after winning the toss. Probably a wise decision by BD till now.

I guess that's too far away to think. Wait till the other side uses the pitch/conditions, that's when we can get critical of the teams.
