Re: The Cricket Thread

India 121 in 12.1 overs :-)

This is seriously explosive batting and I like India's approach of going for a win instead of just playing things out. Rohit sets a great example at the top with actions aligned with talk. It likely makes it easier for the rest of the batter to follow the same template.

And I remember days when players would be focused on personal milestones to the exclusion of taking the game forward.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India v Bangladesh test is very well poised for the final day.

If we manage to get them out for 150, thereby having to chase down about 100, we should win. Let's see what Bumrah and Co have in store for us tomorrow!

I read somewhere that if this match ends in a draw, we would need to win 5 out of our remaining 8 tests (3 at home vs NZ and 5 away in Australia) in order to make it to the WTC final. So it's really important we somehow pull this off.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This is the beauty of the World Test Championship. Had a place in the finals not been at stake, chances are that we would have batted normally and not risk anything being 1-0 up already.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Missed watching it live yesterday.
Absolute brilliance by our team.

Rohit Sharma hitting first ball for 6 set the tone and no one backed down. Kudos to every batter for playing selflessly. Bangladesh is already 3 down with 10 runs trailing so I expect a victory today. Would be a marvelous achievement.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Its done and dusted. This is how a test match should be played, though the pitches are not sportive , they are not too different from the surfaces in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile a narrow escape for Musheer, younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan after a car crash. Glad he survived else would have been another "Pant moment". Was heading to play Irani Trophy, Mumbai vs ROI, enroute to Lucknow from Azamgarh.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Murali Kartik might just overtake Sanju Manju as Indian cricket's worst commentator. The only saving grace is that Murali is sometimes unintentionally funny with his takes:

1. In today's post match presentation he mixed up Player of the series Ashwin and Player of the match Jaiswal and announced the player of the match as "Raviddd Yashasvi Jaiswal".

2. I absolutely cringe when he starts screaming "He goes INTO-OUUUT", when any batter plays any shot even resembling a cover drive.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Great win.
Bangladesh just beat Pak 2-0 at their home so they weren't exactly our of form. With 2.5 days washed out and to get such a convincing victory is unbelievable. Good things is Kohli and KL are back in some form.

So, we need to win next test to equal our 7 consecutive test wins at home record. I hope we beat it by winning all 3 tests against NZ. Even for WTC today's win was quite crucial.

Re: The Cricket Thread

A clinical win for the men in blue against Bangladesh in the first T20I of the 3-match series.

If not for the 'silly' loss against Zimbabwe in the first match of the 5-match T20I series earlier this year, India would have had an unprecedented winning streak of 21 consecutive matches.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Watched the second half of the Indian women's game against Pakistan. Felt like most of them were struggling to cope with the afternoon heat in Dubai. Harmanpreet, who was easily the most fluent batter even retired hurt owing to cramps.

The men's match against Bangladesh was one sided. Tuned in to watch Mayank Yadav and Nitish Reddy but stayed for Hardik Pandya's fireworks. Hopefully Harshit Rana gets a game this series too.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Meanwhile, Pakistan is bullying England in the Multan test.

The scoreboard reads 203/1 as I type. They are going at a run rate of 4.8. Incredible turnaround considering they lost to Bangladesh at home last month.

Clearly the term 'pecking order' is used & abused as per the team management's fancy. Harshit Rana was picked in the Squad for the Zimbabwe T20s & now Mayank Yadav gets a game ahead of him. I know he's India's fastest but he hasn't even played a domestic game I believe since April. Similarly Bishnoi who virtually plays every T20 barring marque tournaments wasn't picked but Chakravarthy was chosen ahead of him.
