Re: The Cricket Thread

During England Series, Jurel and Sarfaraz debuted. The former saved India from a difficult situation, the later made a 50 odd but was given all the accolades and a “Thar” too, on account of brilliant PR and strong lobby.
The way this lad Jurel is performing, he should be an automatic choice after Pant in the batting lineup against Australia. But, KL will be given preference by the management which has been a trend for last 5-6 years!

Re: The Cricket Thread

No matter what all news and tit bits BCCI and Management gives to media, if Rohit, Kohli and KL Rahul are there in the team and we have 5 bowlers instead of 4, we will lose the series in Aus no matter what Pant and Bumrah do. We need to have Jurel and new blood in the team. If we lose with the young team, so be it but atleast these guys get expererience in the long run. Yash Dhul is also a good talent for the longer run. Sarfaraz will have to see how he will do in Aus pitches with the bounce. I don't have bigger hopes for Sarfaraz but happy to be proved wrong.

Dhruv Jurel has got two fifties in the ongoing India A vs Aus A test match. He needs to be on the team to give him time to adjust and score.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Dhruv Jurel and Prasid Krishna must be in the final XI. There should be no doubt about it. Looks like Rohit will play all the matches and travels in between first and second test given long gap between matches. So my starting XI would be
Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill, Kohli, Pant, Jurel, Jadeja, Ashwin, Harshit Rana, Bumrah, Prasid Krishna.

In the absence of Rohit, Gill can open and we can slot in Sarfaraz.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I don't see Jadeja and Ash playing together. It would lead to a longer lower order. Washington may slot in place of Ashwin to elongate batting lineup. He's anyway in better form than most of our batsmen except Pant and Jurel. He also has experience down-under and contributed well with the bat last time.

XI - Jaiswal, Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Pant, Jurel, Washington, Jadeja, Prasidh, Bumrah, Akashdeep

I expect Gill to fail miserably in these conditions. Sarfaraz could then be tried after 2 tests.

Result expectation : 1-3 if Bumrah's magic works during the series, 0-4 if his form fades or he receives 0 support from the other end

Re: The Cricket Thread

Looks like we can have 3 or so strong teams that can represent the country on normal pitches. While not one decent team in challenging conditions now that we can't play spin too.

Why not Sanju Samson also in the mix? He's in excellent form and sticking the ball like no body's business.

Drop both Rohit and Virat, let's start BGT on a clean slate.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Would be very surprised if Jurel & Prasidh don't feature in the Perth Test! At the same time we should not expect too much from the likes of Jurel considering he will be up against Starc/Hazelwood/Cummins.

My opinion, dude should be left to run riot in T20s along with Ishan? Is he still relevant?.

Pant is better suited for Tests and well maybe Jurel as standby keeper/batsman.

SL vs NZ T20 what a recovery by Kiwis tail remarkable. 135 fighting score.

But SL are on a roll, let's see.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Finally some good news.
This should be playing 11-

Jaiswal
Gill
Kohli
Sarfraz
Pant
Jurel
Jadeja
Ashwin
Prasidh/Siraj
Akashdeep
Bumrah

They can also play 4 pacers and drop Ash. However in 2021 Ash dismissed smith and Marnus and with Bat was clutch when needed so I will play him over a 4th pacer.

Isn't this an example of playing someone basis his reputation/past exploits? Ashwin has had his share of deprivation in the past but on current form, no way he makes the eleven at Perth. Jadeja should not be there either, his batting is now rubbish and the wicket will be a polar opposite of rank turners. If you must play a spin bowling allrounder, what sin has Washington sundar committed? If anything, aussies have traditionally struggled against RH offies.

Siraj should be replaced by prasidh, he was really bending his back and hitting the keepers gloves hard in the just concluded A tour. And if not a fourth seamer, play one of the seam bowling allrounders if you have dragged two of them all the way there. Harshit rana has little to show by way of red ball exploits, yet Gambhir managed to get him in the squad. Might as well blood him right way because he jumped ahead of several other benchwarmers who have done more time.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Meanwhile Pakistan pacers have rattled Aussie batsmen in 3rd ODI at Perth, packing them at mere 140 in 31 odd overs, they are playing smart cricket, specially the team selection, using spinners in Asian/home conditions and raw pace battery in seaming conditions in Australia.

And here we are clueless to gain the advantage of the weather and pitch condition to read it favorably. We need to take a cue from this and I hope we play 4 pacers and a spinner max, 2 spinners are totally waste of resources, except Sydney.

It was entertaining under Kohli's captaincy when he played 5 pace battery to knock off Aussies.

Playing 2 spinners is an overkill in Australia! I agree it lengthens the batting order but most pitches I feel will offer a bit of seam movement & will be decent for batting. Ashwin did very well back then but struggled recently on home pitches. I think playing 4 pacers is a must in most Test matches in Australia. Last time India had Shardul Thakur batting lower down the order, this time it will be a very long tail! India should immediately look to Washington Sundar incase Jadeja fails with both bat & ball.

Sanju just shows how he can be the prefect replacement for Rohit.

Terrific batting display for the 100. Elegant and Brutal hitting at same time. Just like Rohit
Also big knock followed by a duck. Just like Rohit.
Both started blooming once opening slot was given. I am hoping Sanju gets more chances even when other openers like Jaiswal, Gill, Ishan etc are also available.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India really needs to get three teams ready with minimal overlaps. Except for few players majority should stick to One format. Gill should be kept away from T20, this team though faltered today, is decent. Jaiswal can replace Abhishek, who continues to fail.

Talking of Today's match, Hardik took the definition of farming strike to next level. Should have at least trusted Arshdeep, could have done his farming after Akashdeep wicket. Team putting up a good fight.

66/6 now, some one needs to play a blinder for South Africa.
