I guess, Prasidh Yes, Harshit - I doubt he will get a look into, with the current mess going on the tour. They will need some scapegoats at the end of the tour.

Have a gut feeling that Pant would be dropped too for Jurel. I would have liked both in the team with Kohli dropped.

Kohli, is on borrowed time with his 100*. Probably his last chance to end on a high(?)
I doubt he will leave on his own, unless getting forcibly dropped.

Yeah he will have to, else he won't get a place in the team for English summers which is supposedly his new home and his new fan base.

Agreed, but my point is here he got all the bunch changed as per his liking or favoritism, that's the problem. Every coach in the past have got 1 or 2 as per their demands.

However, I don't like the idea of GG as head coach and may well go down as one of the worst as you pointed out. Headstrong characters like Chappell and GG will find the going tough in Indian cricket. Both are uncannily similar in their nature I feel, with them coming in and trying to change everything overnight and rubbing the players (especially the senior players) in the wrong way. Both Chappell and GG are very hostile to the media as well(or is it the media that is hostile to them?). Contrast this with the successful coaches we have had like John Wright, Kirsten or Dravid. All of them got along reasonably well with the players, kept a low profile with the media and eased their way into the position rather than come out guns blazing on the first day.
This is exactly what I had said earlier when he was appointed as a head coach.

Fingers crossed though !

PR and Social media seems to have been playing a much bigger role and influencing Indian cricket, so it is probably giveback time now (Karma)! The Cricket Thread-99d4d89aa91b4328b55ad6cca63381bb.jpeg

Re: The Cricket Thread

Finally, some common sense prevailed. India dropped a player who was completely out of form, especially when we have a strong backup batting lineup. This is the way to go.

But I personally think this decision had more to do with leaking dressing room talks than performance issues.

If I recall correctly Rohit was given a lot of chances in the initial stage of his career when MSD was captain. He played without making much of an impact for at least forty to fifty games and a couple of years before he started performing somewhat consistently. I have never come across anyone else who was given so many opportunities as a youngster. I still have a faint recollection of cursing the then team management for persisting with him. Speak of déjà vu.

Now as captain it would be a lot more graceful on his part if he decides to retire. Otherwise he may have to relive his experience in MI where he was abruptly stripped of captaincy. Unlike MI he may be thrown out of the playing eleven too!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rohit out, Gill in.
Akash out due to injury, Prasidh in.
Both could be match winning changes.
Don't see Pant being axed. He has been our best test bat since 2020 and his playing style will always be like Maxwell. Stupid shots will be there. But he can play a match winning innings too and he doesn't look out of form as well.

Bumrah back has Captain gives hope that BGT can be retained by winning this game. Let's see.

Yes. Rohit got so many chances at the beginning of his career. Some time it felt like BCCI wanted to give him chances until he perform well, even if it took 10 years.

Another one who got that many chances without any performance to speak about is Pant (in limited over cricket T20/50 over)

I have another controversial opinion. I feel it's the Karma hitting back Rohit & his PR/support . I genuinely felt Kohli was stripped of his captaincy just to make Rohit captain in all format. Kohli was the finest when he was captaining the test team and was performing terrific with bat as well. I believe The whole captaincy saga made a big dent on his batting as well.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The unthinkable has happened, kudos to Gambhir for dropping (the non-performing Captain) Rohit Sharma from the XI !

What really nailed it for Rohit was his decision to open at MCG when the settled opening partnership of Jaiswal-Rahul was one of the positives of this tour.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Drops himself, what a Joke PR team. Actual heading should be "In a positove move Non performing Captain kicked out of the team" unfortunately another non performer still holds on to his place by virtue of bullying and jumping on ground. So it will be 10 vs 11.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The Sydney Test would have been the perfect farewell for Ashwin, if only those in charge had handled the situation better. When the captain himself is uncertain about his spot in the playing XI, how can he step up and plan a fitting farewell? Well, a truly confident and great leader could pull off such a thing. But, it didn’t happen.

Re: The Cricket Thread

KL Rahul is back to his normal self. Play a couple of good innings in the start of the series and then contribute nothing.

India two down inside the first 10 overs. Dropping Rohit is not going to solve any issues. There are deeper problems with the batting unit. Hopefully lower order will kick in this time as well to get us to a respectable total.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Nothing has changed from top order perspective, poor shot from KL to straight to the fielder and Kohli survived a first ball poke on yet another outside off stump delivery. Now it’s all about how much he can make use of that lucky escape.

Maiden over after maiden over. Aussie bowlers are sure being allowed to grow in confidence.

EDIT: Now Gill’s gone!
