Did anyone really think Rohit was going to score runs at the Ranji level?! He's not in a proper frame of mind forget form to play Cricket! Majority of the players are being forced to play Ranji after what Gambhir said during his press conference. The player whom Rohit replaced in the XI got a 100 in the last game! Someone like Siraj bowled in 5 Tests back to back, he needs a proper rest & not play in some inconsequential game when the next Test Match is in June! It will be fun if one of the star players gets injured & is ruled out of the Champions Trophy. Now that Rohit has failed in the Ranji game, will the Selection Committee now drop him for the England tour? This move lacks any sort of planning & is obviously done to pacify a few egos.

Punjab - All out for 55 against Karnataka

Delhi - 153/6 against Saurashtra, Jadeja doing what he does best, getting 3 top order including Pant. Would keep an eye on Pujara, if there's some steam left.
Came to post this and you have already done the honors. It's quite amusing to see the collective failure of every so called star player for ICT or even the ones on the bench. This list is missing Kohli. 2 runs spot was empty which he could have easily taken by poking outside off as usual

Whatever be the case. Be it bcci or Gambhir who is forcing them to play domestic. It's a good thing. Some will eventually make runs. Some will fail. Whatever happens no one can hide anymore being a Star player. Home series loss and BGT loss has finally exposed everyone and not even their PR is going to help now.

Pant will give you memorable innings here & there but I'm not too sure we can expect him to be consistent if he's going to be playing high risk game! Thats the reason Gill is considered to be next heir to the throne left behind by Virat who used to be beast long back.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Mumbai playing with 13 players.

Damn these J&K bowlers are so very impressive. Much much better than the Indian bowlers I see, minus Bumrah.

They all look like Hazelwood/cummins caliber. Don’t know what selectors miss to see in them. Yes, the pitch is spicy, but their line and length is so immaculate.

ODI captain failed again by displaying a poor shot selection. From 55/1 to 86/5 at lunch, Dubeji had a pair, seems heading for a straight embarrassing defeat for 42 times champion.

I didn't know DK was playing SA20. Hats off to him!!

https://x.com/JioCinema/status/1879560146579566783?

High time BCCI removes the silly non-compete rule that Indian players must retire (including IPL) before they can play in international leagues. I understand players should not be selected for national team if they are playing other leagues (too much distraction and so on), but why this restriction for IPL?

Re: The Cricket Threadi

A telling picture. And some folks are of the opinion that domestic cricket is not competitive enough to pick our next international players or not good enough to test our pseudo stars.

Then why are most current or former international batsmen struggling? And why the current Ranji matches are being played at B stadiums, if BCCI is so serious about players to have go at domestic games. I guess pitches preparations for IPL or grounds needed for republic day duties.

Meanwhile lord Thakur, standing like a wall, trying to save star studded Mumbai team from imminent defeat. 174/7 @ Day2 tea.

The fitness of these J&K fast bowlers is at next platform, have been bowling for 2 days and still going strong. Damn 80 odd overs in 2 days by 3 pacers, speaks their fitness level.

For cricket fans, please have a look at the catch taken by J&K captain Dogra to dismiss Rahane, the guy is flying at 40+.

Sharma Ji and Pant failed again in second innings. Poor state bodies would be crying why did they allow all these stars in their teams.

Never gonna happen.
BCCI is of firm believe if they allow Indian stars to play other league that will affect the revenue of their cash cow IPL. No matter how greatly it will impact a players growth in playing other leagues with different conditions. All bcci cares About is IPL and the money it brings.

Look at every other board. They allow players to play anywhere in any league. That's why now SENA players have become better playing in subcontinent than before.

Looks like Lord Thakur is doing his best to save Mumbai. If Mumbai manage another 50 runs to the total then J&K might truly be in trouble. Thakur has done this for India many times as well. It's a travesty he was discarded so easily by selectors. Unless you are a Rohit or Kohli you are easily dispensable. I fully expect Rohit and Kohli to be selected for England tour.

Tanush kotian looks like an exciting prospect. Only if domestic guys could get a well deserved chance in Indian team.

Also, I don't mind guys like Jaiswal and Pant failing. They are aggressive young players. Their consistency will always be uncertained but they have played match winning innings when India was in trouble many times. It's Gill who is regarded as Golden boy by BCCI but has done zilch in his test career. He is the worst no.3 I have seen in a long time. No way a below par 35 average player should be there in Indian team. And we have 2 of them. Gill and Rahul right at the top order.

Won't be surprised if Shardul Thakur gets selected for the England tour which is still far away. But we should not forget that his primary job is to bowl well which is where he has faltered as he has been below average in the domestic season! And he was dropped because he lacked any effectiveness with the ball.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Same track the Hitman got 3 & 28, So with Sharmaji in the side Mumbai is no different from India. Bowlers have to take wickets and also score runs.

This guy got 51 & 113 and counting on the same track. Every time Mumbai got into trouble he pulled off some sort of miracle, such a gutsy fighter and performer.

I wish he was there for BGT series. If he gets swinging conditions, he would be a different beast to watch out for. Alas has put his foot in the door for English summers.

Finally Thakur is back !!

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a Ranji match, J&K won with a 6.

J&K crush mighty star studded Mumbai team in a straight win by 5 wickets. This has happened only the second time in the history of game, when Mumbai had lost to J&K, last time it was around 10 years ago.

Mumbai playing with 13 players couldn’t snatch victory. This simply shows 2 things, one play people who are fighters and second don’t let anyone get bigger than the game.

The whole Mumbai team looks like they work in Zaveri Bazar and had Vada Pao for lunch everyday, specially the pot bellied ODI captain, except one or 2.

Meanwhile, Gill’s fight for Punjab ended just after a century, tried single handedly but they were too far behind in the game to get any result in their favour.

Rohit, Jaiswal, Iyer and Pant all had two failures.

Gill got 100 in 2nd inning.

Kohli & KL chickened out.

Thats our 7 batters for CT.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Sad times for Indian cricket, reputation over performance. Imagine if Sharmaji had made 75 runs, PR team would have been in full swing by now, they too are lost at this time.

WTC gone, CT in limbo, Shami does not seem to be fit neither match ready, Bumrah is doubtful, batting is crap, atleast T20I team seems to be moving in right direction.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Great win for J&K against 42 times and defending Ranji Champions Mumbai, that too in their home den! The Mumbai batting line up was packed with guys like Rohit, Jaiswal, Rahane, Iyer, Dube yet it was the bowlers in Lord Shardul and Tanush Kotian who scored bulk of the runs. Sounds familiar, no?

Gill scored a brilliant century against a strong Karnataka seam attack led by Prasidh Krishna on a spicy Bangalore pitch. Jadeja also got a 5 wicket haul and scored 38 runs in his appearance for Saurashtra. We also have a couple of young left arm spinners who can bat doing really well in Harsh Dubey for Vidarbha and Manav Suthar for Rajasthan. Harsh is actually the top wicket taker in the whole tournament as of now. But my money is on Manav to make his India debut first.

How dare you say our fearless king chickened out? Didn't you witness the fearless intensity of his majesty's royal shoulder barge to a teenage debutant just a couple of weeks ago? The king has a neck sprain, probably from craning his neck with too much intensity trying to look behind at the slips everytime he nicks off outside the off stump.

Sorry, didn't get this. Is this some sarcasm? Or a new super sub rule which I am not aware of?

Or we are just counting Shardul Thakur as 2 players?
