Re: The Cricket Thread

I am of the opinion that Virat and Rohit should play as long as they are fit to do so, but Rohit should step down from captaincy. Young minds like Gill and Pant should be given a chance to lead Team India on the international stage, and these senior players should groom them so that the future of Indian cricket is bright and secure.

Agreed. A World Cup is a World Cup! Champions Trophy is secondary. Thats why no open top bus celebration, etc was planned.

When to retire is always the Players call! But in this case the real battle is between the PR department of Virat & Rohit. Nobody will concede even an inch. And this will damage their legacy or whatever is left of it!

2. If he wishes, should he captain India in the ODI WC'27?
Who will Captain is always the Selectors call. Its time Agarkar has a quiet word with Rohit. And I hope based on this Champions Trophy triumph both Rohit & Virat don't continue in the Test team. But everyone knows what will eventually happen.

Smith is still interested in playing the IPL , just that none of the franchises are interested in him. I believe he was commentating the last time round. Thats the reason he hasn't retired from T20 Internationals.

Anyway, from an indian cricket standpoint, I think Rohit should retire from Tests, his high risk style will not pay off in Tests, especially in overseas conditions.
Apart from an odd innings against Bangladesh when has he demonstrated playing high risk game in Test Cricket!?

The ECB has already lost millions because India did not qualify for the WTC finals.

Virat will be there in England, for sure.

Re: The Cricket Thread

As per news reports, PAK cricket board has suffered a loss of nearly Rs. 900 cr. in the process of hosting the Champions Trophy. Some reports also indicate cutting of match fees of PAK players by upto 90%! What is interesting is that PAK got to play just one game at home- Vs. NZ. They travelled to Dubai for the match against India, which they lost. Their third and final group match against Bangladesh was washed out without a ball being bowled. Hence, there wasn't much of revenue from sale of tickets too.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The decision to reduce the match fees of the male cricketers has been overturned by the higher-ups.

But according to some reports, women cricketers still get paid less than minimum wage.

Yes, he spends a lot of time in England anyways so he might as well play a few weeks of County Cricket after the IPL since there won't be any tour games I believe. But I doubt that will happen as most Senior Players prefer high intensity net session instead!

My observations on Shardul Thakur a few years ago:

I'm a keyboard warriror here. He may play for a long time, especially when a pace bowling all-rounder (4th pacer) is required OR opposition team analysts may decode his bowling and he may become a forgotten commodity.
I always feel there is something special about him and he flies under the radar.

As much as I think Dhoni will feature in an Indian all time 11, I hate to say that:

Tell that to a die hard Dhoni fan only if you want to trigger a mini war. I live with one, so I know!

Not only is he past his prime physically, he has very less tricks up his sleeve even on the thinking front. The days of his magic are long over; he is but a pale shadow of his original self. I remember painfully watching Kapil Dev in his final years: Dhoni's insipid performances have gone a step further. He had the opportunity to end on a high with the trophy; should have used it and walked into the oblivion. Now, the choice is between the devil and the deep sea; either ways, he is unlikely to come out unscathed.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am hearing some wierd news from across the border. A couple of days ago James Vince scored a century in a PSL game. In the post match presentation ceremony, he was awarded a hair dryer as his man of the match prize.

And the award for the player of the tournament is a motorbike.

Very true, what else can this poor league afford?
Also, each team owner makes about 2.3 CR, RR pays 1.5CR to their 13 year old Vaibhav
