He is still a better bet than Ishant Sharma.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think there isn't even one local player in RCB. Should be record among IPL franchises.

Mallya seems to have a serious issue with resource planning. Ended up spending heavily on the big names, had no money left for the local stars when they came in. Did he expect to see no one else bid for the likes of Rahul,Pandey,Mayank,Nair?

Re: The Cricket Thread

Came to office now, Opened Cricinfo website to check scores and...

... Ishant has taken 6 Wickets again! Newzealand bundled for 192.
He just booked a place in the 2019 World cup.

Now that we have avoided follow on, I just hope our batsmen get some lead atleast.

Ishan reminds me of few IT engineers I've met in my career. Being in technical role, one needs to keep running behind them to tell what has to be done, how it has to be done & ensure it is driven to completion. After explaining the entire ramayana over weeks, they keep asking "who is sita?"

Ishant seems to be in the same situation, hasn't learnt the art with experience.

Except Pietersen none of their batman have any record in T20, say Murli Vijay, Dinesh Karthick, Ross Taylor, Duminy. Also they haven't picked any good bowlers. They start as the weakest team.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Surprised to see Ishant do well today, and was even more suprised that all his wickets, save one, were from good deliveries.

I hope we can get a 150+ lead and force a victory over here. Almost a 1000 days since the last victory abroad

Congratulations to Ajinkhya Rahane.
Wonderful mainden test Century. The best thing about it was the celebration. The new Gentleman of the game.
A Kohli century and a Rahane maiden century...huge contrast!

Re: The Cricket Thread

And we need both type of characters in the team. I would not want to lose either of them.

Brilliant batting by Rahane today. Enough time to force a victory, weather permitting but an innings victory would be swwweeett

Congratulations to Rahane on very well deserved maiden century that too abroad He had missed narrowly against SA. I hope they show faith in him in ODI's too. Understated celebration - seems some RD influence there.

Any one surprised by Nohit Sharma's failure when even Sir Jadeja scored runs?

I hope he is dropped for some proven Ranaji performers.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So we see the same saga repeated. NZ come back from the dead while our captain cool being a spectator to the proceedings with his unimaginative and defensive field placements.

I have never seen a past side (barring Azhar's era) which is so resistant to change. The bigger malaise of course is our inability to force wins in test matches overseas but then I guess accountability has already gone out of the window in Indian cricket. As long as IPL continues to rake in money and our paper tigers flourish in home conditions, all is forgotten and forgiven.

What is heart rending is despite both the batsmen and bowlers turning up for the job in the current match, we seem to have forgotten the art of winning matches abroad. Were we too complacent when the first 4 wickets fell? Are we hungry enough to do well in test matches? Can we dare to look beyond the current dispensation for test matches? am afraid these are questions which cannot be posed to the current team leadership

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am at a loss of words.

How do you have the opposition almost down and out at 94/5 and allow them to be 571/6? That's an addition of 477 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.

And a test match hack like Brendon McCullum of all people pulls off a Laxman against us (he is 281 not out currently).

Our bowling simply sucks pits. Brace yourselves for a 5-0 whitewash in the coming English summer.

You spoke too soon!
As somebody said on Twitter, what we really need is a Jan Bowlpal Bill rather than Jan Lokpal!
Ishant is wicketless after venting out his frustration on the selectors after his 1st innings bowling effort. We effectively have only 3 bowlers, Jadeja is useless as a 4th bowler outside sub-continent.

Time for our team to quickly come back home & do well in Asia Cup & say 'All is well'!
