Oh sorry, I misread the stat from cricbuzz commentary. thanks for correcting me. It seems that this is only the third time since 1990 and not first time. Edited my post and hats off to your memory

Re: The Cricket Thread

This is the kind of pitch where I would've played Umesh Yadav ahead of Ishant.

Now, let me get back to my armchair

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kohli must have gone with history. In last 10 years or so only once a team batting first has lost which was way back in 2006. Highly disappointed by Rahul. He has looked a walking wicket in this series. We could have asked Pujara to open cos in any case he bats within first 5 overs and retained Rohit too. Anyways, we need at least 300 to make a match.

Not just the team selection, bit flustered by the decision to bat first after packing in 5 seamers, why won't you give them the best use of the conditions right away? Would have loved to see Umesh in place of Bhumrah on this pacy wicket.
Is it that it was a team decision to bat first after winning the toss? Maybe history of the ground had a role to play here.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Not wanting to bat last with the kind of form everyone's in, is probably the only reasonable justification.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Grassy pitch, pick 5 pacers, play a batsman short, win the toss & then bat first. Makes perfect sense!

Kohli is having a false sense of bravado by making such decisions!

Impending Rains which have been forecast the entire Test will play a crucial role according to me.

I am sure we played more such matches with 4 fast bowlers. If you count Prasad as fast, so was Kumble

They have vowed not to get anything right this tour. Brace yourselves for 3-0.

For a change we are having some luck and a good partnership going on. If somehow we can manage even 250-270 this is match on big time. 3-0 won't be that easy then.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Our batsmen are on the job already and 6 down!
Haven't watched the game all day, just checked the score and I'm not too surprised. Pattern in this series continues with consistency, sadly.

Already 140-6 highly unlikely they'll get close to that score.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This, after ten days of preparation and getting used to the conditions; one more excuse bites the dust.
I am looking forward to the post match press conference with the justification for the team composition and other entertaining issues to be discussed in that forum with intent towards journalists and self expression.

Folks were too hard on Kohli and Shastri re team selection. The issue is more systemic.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Yes, it is systemic, but that gets compounded by the daft decision making with the team selection, having just five batsmen, one dubious all rounder, four pacemen, and then on getting the option, choosing to bat on a green top in overcast conditions.

Re: The Cricket Thread

187 on first bat. Would need to hold SA to around 200 to have a chance. If they drag themselves into a decent lead (50-80 runs), setting a competitive total to chase batting 4th will be an uphill task.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Hardik Pandya deserves to be dropped for 3 years for the last 3 ridiculously casual and careless dismissals of his. Overconfident run out, fly-swatting kind of shot, and today's "I'm invincible" kind of arrogant shot.
Pressure got the better of Rahane.
This must be Kohli's most lucky 50 I guess after 4 let offs.
Bhuvi scored 30odd and now a wicket and he was dropped last match.
