Re: The Cricket Thread

It's funny how on one hand, we are spoilt for choice with one of the best bench strength for every spot in recent years, and on the other, we can't seem to find the best playing XI. What's wrong?

Natarajan has gotten into the team because of the variety he offers being a left arm seamer. I was a but surprised he got into the squad on the basis of just 1 good IPL season. Khaleel Ahmed was also tried sometime back, he's been dropped for good now.

The balance is missing in the ODI squad - we badly need 1-2 good all rounders who can bat lower down the order. Look at Australian, English and New Zealand teams and you will see that they have bankable all rounders and that makes the big difference.

For example Australia has Finch, Warner, Smith, Labuschagne who take care of the top order in the batting department, Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins, Zampa who are the bowlers and in the middle they also have Carey (wicket keeper/batsman) Maxwell and Stoinis (all rounders), heck even Starc and Cummins bat well! This gives them at least 6 bowling options that can offset one bowler's bad day and the middle and lower order can also manage to score runs if one or more batsmen in the top order fail.

In our current team, we are missing folks like Maxwell and Stoinis and that makes the biggest difference.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Why can't they try Krunal pandya instead of Chahal atleast outside India, where spinners don't turn the game around, though zampa screwed us over real good in last match. The other option can be to swap him with Mayank and let Rahul open.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This is the problem-

Batsmen don't bowl and bowlers can't bat

Re: The Cricket Thread

Ind-Aus 2nd ODI - Aus won the toss and opt to bat again. Stoinis injured and replaced by Henriques and India play unchanged I hope the result isn't the same like the last game, fingers crossed!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Apparently Mayank Agrawal was bowling in long spell since morning. We may have some surprise in store. Harsha Bhogle pointed out a good point on the all rounder availability in India. The only options we have are:
Giving ratings as per my understanding.

H Pandya (8/10)
K Pandya (6/10)
A Patel (6/10)
J Yadav (5/10)
V Shankar (5/10)

Are there any other apart from the above?

Wrist spinner like Chahal is required in the team. However the other option seems good. Krunal could be a decent batsman and can be floated for left right combinations along with Jadeja. He can be as Indian Shoaib Malik. He can rotate strike as well.

Expecting a lot too much from him. In all reality with no liking towards Sanjay Manjrekar, K Pandya is the real tits and bits player

When we expected 3D player for a world cup squad why not try out this man!
P.S: Somehow SM has joined commentary box. Hate to hear his voice and theories.

I completely blame MSK Prasad for our WC Loss. Horrendous selection. S Iyer / M Pandey were the choices.

From his looks and restraint, feels like his wife has forced him to join and get some money home

Honestly I was of the same opinion but I must confess I enjoyed one very well timed comment/jibe from him during the first ODI. Just when the discussion was about India's retro jersey, Kohli misfielded and the ball glided on the ground between the legs and Manjrekar said "that looks like retro fielding from my days"

Edit:Finch and Warner doing great, will they get 400 today ? Scary.

Re: The Cricket Thread

It's sad that probably the best bowling combination we can field is looking so mediocre. 90 balls done and not even one ball looked like a wicket taking delivery.
