Re: The Cricket Thread

I think the first session was even Stevens. If these two bat on for the second session we have a good chance of winning.

Both of them scored big last time at SCG. Hopefully we see somthing similar this time as well.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Pant goes for 36 after being troubled by short balls and one of them striking his forearm after which he looked unsettled. India 195-5 with Pujara still at the crease. Need some resolute batting from Sir Jadeja, Pujara and the rest of the tail, otherwise this game is going Australia's way.

Edit:Pujara goes and Indian batting tottering! Hope the Aussies don't get a lead of more than 50, wishful thinking though!

Re: The Cricket Thread

With those 2 wickets, AUS is right back into this match. I am never a supporter of ‘slow’ batting, especially in 1st or 2nd innings. During Dravid era, he was the only one who used to play slow, hence there was not an issue with the scoring rate. But now, we have Pujara, Rahane and Vihari. So, it is always going to backfire when we lose wickets. I hope Jaddu and Ashwin can score some runs and get us closer to AUS first innings.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Digging in and knocking the ball around, maybe even presenting a dead bat under certain circumstances, is the logical way to approach the long game, in order to frustrate the opposition.

However, displaying the intent to score at a reasonably healthy rate by test match standards is just as crucial in frustrating the opposition.

One can hope that the tail wags and Jadeja, Ashwin and co. put on a quick-fire 100 run at the least, to save this game.

EDIT: And just as I post this, we lose a 7th. *facepalm*

Re: The Cricket Thread

Ashwin was more like a ‘Walk out’ than being ‘Run Out’. Pathetic commitment ! Forget a dive, just an extra Lunge would have saved him.

For all the tactics of trying to be ultra defensive, it has backfired badly. It will be nothing short of a miracle to even pull off a draw from now one.

The Aussie batsmen will be extremely aggressive and our fielders will be chasing leather for most part of tomorrow.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What’s with so many runouts? 3 in a test inning is just sad

This match is all but gone unless the bowlers pull off a blinder like 1st match wherein Indians got bundled for 36 runs in 2nd inning.

And we are bundled out for 244. 94 run lead to aussies. Will look forward to 4th test now. Hope India can pull off a win and draw the series .

Re: The Cricket Thread

One more aspect that we keep forgetting here is the role of Indian tail enders. When was the last time they did a decent contribution?
Zaheer, Bhuvi, Ishanth, all these guys were decent when it comes to batting. But in the current lineup, all the 3 bowlers are like sitting ducks against Aussie pacers!

Re: The Cricket Thread

How useful Jadeja's knock has been. Sir Jadeja in his prime form of his career especially with his batting. I think this is an opportune time to promote him above Pant in batting order. Yesterday when Pujara and Rahane stalled the run rate in order to secure wicket till the end of day was not encouraging. Somehow that put floodgates on rate of scoring that openers gave us and today morning it just busted.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India lost 6 wickets for around 40 odd runs. As expected, the tail failed to wag as Jadeja was the only one left resisting the bowling attack.

And again, the team has thrown it away from a good position, as they have consistently during this series.

We couldn’t even bat for the entirety of the 3rd day! And now Australia start their 2nd innings at 94/0 effectively.

Hope I am proven wrong!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Vihari is such a waste, gives no confidence at all, maybe they should have retained Hardik and played him in front of Vihari as a batsman, if vihari does not score well in 2 nd innings, he should be left out.

Or even a double promotion above Vihari. Jadeja has scored triple centuries in domestic cricket, so does have the temperament to play a long innings.

But the way things are, looks like they treat him more as a bowling all rounder.

A very much under rated and under utilised cricketer IMHO.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I expect Australia to score atleast 120-150 runs in the 41 overs remaining now. Another 100 runs tomorrow and we are looking at chasing above 350 runs in the 4th innings.

Edit: Unless ofcourse we bundle them out for less than 100 today.
