Re: The Cricket Thread

Anyone interested to read Guardian's view on Smith incident - mainly in defence of Smith and explaining some of the facts of the 'guard'.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Uff! It’s an article that tries to lean on technicalities. A truck load of BS.

As for Smith, it’s clear that his reputation precedes him. I wish the author recognised this before giving it a go on the former cricketer who commented on the incident.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Irrespective of the outcome of this series, have a new found respect for this team for the way they have fought back after getting shot out for 36 in the 1st Test. What I'm amazed by is why a full strength Australian Team is having so much difficulty against virtually a 2nd string Indian Team!

Re: The Cricket Thread

While the Gabba test always seemed like a very tough one with the kind of pitch that's usually dished out and the record that Australia have there, now this really seems like the "Final Frontier" with all the injuries sustained by the Indian team players and Covid restrictions of playing in a Bio bubble (too late to fly in replacements), a highly depleted team has been fielded.

Australia play with almost the same squad with their top bowlers Cummins, Hazlewood and.Starc who have 600+ test wickets between them and we have Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Natarajan and Mayank drafted into the final 11. This is by far the least experienced test bowling for India, Ashwin and Bumrah not playing, Siraj with just 2 tests is the most experienced bowler!

We need to show a lot of character, mental strength and play positive cricket just to give a fight and save this test because the odds are stacked too heavily against the team.

*If Kuldeep isn't fully fit why has he been touring with the team for so long ?

Re: The Cricket Thread

This is going to be a good test of our boys. Almost like an India A vs a full strength Australia. Side to play against in Australia. Sundar is a good addition to the team. He bowls well and can bat decently. Agrawal will be the one we all have our hopes on. Post the previous match, his batting position has become more vital. Hope we have no more injuries in these 5 days and come out victorious

When I wrote this last week, never in my wildest imagination I thought Jadeja and Ashwin would be out as well and Sundar would make the debut too alongside Natarajan. Now we have five bowlers with a combined test tally of 4 tests if I'm not wrong. This must be some sort of record I reckon.

Re: The Cricket Thread

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Even without winning a single toss, the Indian team has already surpassed expectations in the series till now. Despite the lack of experience in the bowling, am sure they will give a good account of themselves in the 4th test too.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Surely, the physio needs to answer some tough questions. Something in training is definitely not right. We can't have so many bowlers getting injured.

The Aussies have been managing to hold up very well. Same attack for all the test and most of the white ball matches

Re: The Cricket Thread

Smith gone. Rahane drops a simple chance. Saini injured.
Looks like B Arun will have to come out and start bowling. I had read somewhere that the team was making Mayank bowl in the nets. Could be sharing few overs with Rohit Sharma. But do we really need to worry so much? Probably yes, because we don't have our marathon bowlers - Jaddu and Ashwin.

I think the IPL has played a big role in the injury woes for India, timing was just too close to this series

Edit: Labuschagne is one lucky batsman who seems to get one or more lives every inning he plays and he goes on to make decent scores most times.

Cummins almost played all IPL games, and I think if anything it was good practice for players, they just generally lack fitness. Except Shami and Jadeja who were externally injured, the rest have been all facing some niggles.

Bumrah in general can hardly play continuously, he either gets injured or is rested out, he is turning out to be a great player, but need to be turning out more regularly. I won't be surprised now he is rested for England series.

Re: The Cricket Thread

We are not going to take 20 wickets with this attack. Again, draw becomes our best hope sadly.

How on earth is Kuldeep not among the top 10 bowlers in India? Washington Sundar getting picked over him is a travesty, he doesn't even bowl his full 4 overs in T20s.

He can do 75% of what Jadeja did for us (except fielding). Sundar is a good batsman and has been an intelligent bowler. True, he may not pick more wickets but can contain the scoring rate. Sadly, we don't have a proven wicket taking bowler at the other end. Few articles and tweets mention Kuldeep carrying a niggle. Not sure if that's true because he has been bowling in the nets.
This match will have a result and could not be in our favour. Hope to be proven wrong.

The Cricket Thread

They way I see it the fielding has let the bowlers down. At the end of 2nd session day one we could have easily had a couple more. As is the bowlers are not able to dish out many good deliveries.

It is going to be a huge huge score here onwards at a rapid pace. India in for a drubbing and least we could have done is hold onto the chances.

Thakur is leaking and deflating India.
