Hoping Rahane-Rohit can stitch a huge partnership and bat through lunch on day 2.
People have edged to first slip and stood their ground

And what's 'spirit' of the game?

Re: The Cricket Thread

To everyone (including myself) who had doubts about Rohit Sharma's place in the test playing eleven - he has a century today and has just booked his spot for the next 10 tests or so , not taking away anything from his game today. He has played attacking cricket and has a bit of luck which is needed. And a crucial knock to provide stability after Gill, Pujara and Kohli got out.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Good first day today. Lets see how much Pant can take us to.

Meanwhile, one DRS decision that helped Rahane actually exposed the gaps in DRS. It’s a different issue that Rahane didn’t do a lot of damage after getting a favourable decision.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Other than Rohit's century, most commendable thing is that England has not conceded a single extra run in an entire day's play, an unbelievable accuracy by English bowlers .

I am not sure whether you can call it as a 'gap' in DRS? Because, it was a mistake from 3rd umpire, not to see the replay in full.
On the other one, even the stumping incident, i felt that it was clearly out as there was no part of the foot behind the crease.
So, two blunders from 3rd umpire today. Thankfully, none of them costed ENG much.

Yes, gap in the third umpire who’s the custodian of the DRS process today.

Yes. Rohit’s stumping too. Two decisions that came our way today.

Neither could luck out though. Hope we get to 350. And I'm hoping for Axar's 5er. He's got a great arm ball and can ball tirelessly.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Great innings by Rohit. As a "senior" player(at least in terms of age), this is what is expected of him. I'm glad that we didn't see the horrors of Brisbane repeat where he played an unnecessary shot to get dismissed on 44.

I really hope Pant + Axar can add at least 150 runs more.

You are hoping too much

Axar is on debut. His recent first class batting has been patchy. If he even makes 30 and stays with Pant for an hour that will be enough. We just need another 50-60 and the last 3 batsman are hopeless.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What do you guys think about ENG rotation policy? I agree that it gives the players (especially fast bowlers) much needed break and they will always be fresh when they are picked. But, I still felt that Anderson should not have been rested after playing just one test. He bowled really well in 1st test and may be, he would have been more effective yesterday compared to Broad?

The tail saga continues, Jadeja is missed so badly.

Rishabh will have to play a blinder, he doesn't have a choice anyway.

I can’t believe I agree with you. #respect. Jadeja’s batting has improved so much in the past few years compared to the joke it was in the early part of his career.

I hope Ind can get 350.

As a matter of fact, In his recent form i will put him above then rahane and Gill for his batting alone now. Extremely consistent, maybe we should thank Manjrekar somewhere

Pant 50*

Re: The Cricket Thread

So India is making it a habit to lose the 1st match in every series to start performing from 2nd one Bowlers are wrecking havoc. Siraj got to bowl only after 5 wickets were down and got a wicket on first ball. Dream start to his home test debut. Of course aided by Pant with a great catch (almost slipped out).

What a glaring difference in this pitch compared to first test. Should be a comfortable win from here with India leveling the series

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think 300+ lead will be good, just to be on safer side.
Unless England comes up with some magical bowling followed by great batting to chase down the target, this should be India's game, probably 70-30 in India's favour right now.

I usually refrain from being so confident about a positive outcome for India because if it doesn't end that way, I feel very disappointed, but letting this time be an exception
