Re: The Cricket Thread

Wow, what a century by Pant. The top & middle-order batsmen (barring Rohit) can learn how to bat from this kid. Great innings from Sundar - I hope the kid gets a century.

I hope India can add another 70-80 runs.

On a lighter note, Sunny not mincing words.

There's life beyond the cricket coaching manual. Results from Chanderpaul, Sehwag, etc have consistently proven that technique isn't everything. Pant is just another freak. With his improving keeping, it'll be sad to see Saha go.

Dravid talks about Sehwag's technique:

Re: The Cricket Thread

We may soon have a long tail which, for a change won't fall like a house of cards.

R Sharma
S Gill / M Agrawal
C Pujara
V Kohli
H Pandya
R Pant
W Sundar
R Ashwin
R Jadeja
A Patel
J Bhumrah

This team looks highly unlikely however it's so damn tempting for matches in India/Sub Continent.

Looks a great team for the Subcontinent conditions, provided that Hardik can bowl atleast 15 overs of pace if required.
Also I would like to see KL Rahul replace Pujara at least for a couple of games. He has the technique and talent to bat at number 3.

Pujara off late seems that he cannot play off spin well.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Washington Sundar looks a serious batsman. He’s been able to score freely without playing the freakish shots Pant plays. If he puts in enough work and bats higher up the order, I think he can easily make it to the 10000 test run club.

+1 for a team with no Rahane. Washy can be tried higher up in place of Rahane. India never had a proper left handed batsman in tests in top order in last 10 years. We have a kiddo in hand now. It's time to groom him.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Pity Washington today! He just needed a few more for his test century. Would have been a fantastic one.

W Sundar can open in place of Gill (left - right combination with Rohit), which leaves space for a K Rahul too in the middle order.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Was heartbreaking to see Sundar walkout. Poor kid misses out on century for second time as the tail couldn’t stick around for an over. Never the less he looks like a proper batsman with elegant shots. No wonder as he opens for TN team. I would like to see him in middle order and it’s high time KL Rahul is given another shot. He is in his prime form & can provide stability to middle order which is currently missing.

As for this match, its in the kitty now. We are off to WTC finals

And England's test team seem to be in a hurry to get back home, by rehearsing their 10 times tables :

10/1
10/2
20/3
30/4

Re: The Cricket Thread

There it is, an emphatic win by an innings and a place sealed at the inaugural World Test Championship. 5-fer for both Ashwin and Axar
Also, there won’t be any discussion on the pitch this time, hopefully.

Re: The Cricket Thread

A very good test match. That hopefully will shift the discussion away from the pitch. England lost emphatically because they have been completely out played by India. Despite winning the toss and getting to bat first, they could not capitalise enough to make India bat for victory on the fifth day.

Great performances for India by Pant and Sundar. Disappointing test and series (again?) for Rahane.

Off to Lords for the WTC final. Let's see what Lords and New zealand has in store for us.

Absorbing 3 days of lively cricket.

Congrats team India for an emphatic series win, well done.

PS: will miss the running commentary on AIR FM, while driving around town, missed jasdev Singh and his comments, nostalgic

Very true, after seeing him bat in the IPL, I really thought his batting was nowhere close to test material and he'd be easily sorted by top international bowlers.

But now I think what was causing more problems for him was the urge to get going with his scoring with many of those shots being the over ambitious, cute/unconventional ones.

In Tests, when he focuses and curbs that initial urge to score fast, he seems to settle in well and later that gives him the confidence to play unconventional shots too and unsettle bowlers.

In some ways his stance seemed a weakness, just like the excessive trigger movement that Steve Smith has and still has gone on to be so successful.
