PS: will miss the running commentary on AIR FM, while driving around town, missed jasdev Singh and his comments, nostalgic

Agreed.

I still tune onto 101.3 AM for the cricket commentary, when I am in the car. Did it today also.

I prefer this to watching it on Hotstar, as I can still work of my IPad and have the commentary on my car speakers.
PS: My driver is at the wheel.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Nice to see so many cricket enthusiasts on this thread and their views.
Folks interested in cricket trivia/quiz, this is for you:

1. Who was the 3rd spinner in Indian team in the first test of recently concluded Ind-Eng test series? (Other 2 being Ashwin & Washington)

2. Who was the non-striker when Rishabh Pant scored the winning runs at Brisbane in the final test of 2021 Ind-Aus test series?

3. Who was the wicket-keeper for South Africa during the 1996 ODI World Cup? (Hint: First name ends in E and last name ends in N)

If you answered all of the above correctly without looking up internet or cricinfo, you rock

1st question is easiest. 3rd is very tough.

Didn't look up, I will try:

1. Shahbaz Nadeem
2. Can only be Navdeep Saini because I remember both Natarajan and Siraj running out of the dugout as soon as Pant hit that winning boundary.
3. Dave Richardson (not entirely sure).

1st and 2nd are correct answers
3rd answer is incorrect. Look it up in ESPNcricinfo

Re: The Cricket Thread

Anyone following the Vizay Hazare tournament ?

Top run getters are Karnataka players Devdutt Padikkal, captain R Samarth and Mumbai captain Prithwi Shaw. While Samarth and Shaw have had their share of low scores in some matches, Devdatt has been very consistent, great talent and hope he makes it to the India Limited Overs team soon.

*The semi-final seems to be going Mumbai's way and Shaw got another big score today

Samarth seems to be unlucky and not getting the nod from the selectors, he even scored a century in an India A game some time ago. I think age (28?) is also not on his side, but then we have Suryakumar Yadav (30) who has now made it to the T20 squad.

Steve Palframan - Obviously I had to look it up on the internet, but I don't remember watching him play in a game

Was only thinking out loud what could the reason for not considering Samarth despite good performances, was wondering if it's the age, but then SKY got the nod despite the age, hence the comparison, nothing else. Samarth is probably more suited to the 50 overs (ODI) game and we obviously don't have open spots for batsmen!

Ok, honest to God - I have not looked at subsequent posts to see the answeres/

1- Saurabh Kumar the left arm spinner?
2- Saini
3- Palframan, since the regular one Richardson was injured

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kudos to Oxy, NPV & Eddy
Correct answers are:
1 - Shahbaz Nadeem
2 - Navdeep Saini
3 - Steve Palframan (that last letter clue thing was meant as a red herring for folks thinking about Dave Richardson )

Now, one more trivia:
In the final test of the iconic 2001 Ind-Aus Series at Chennai, who was the non-striker when young Harbhajan Singh scored the series winning runs?

I think Mongia was dropped (Ganguly's decision didn't go well with the selectors and there was an open altercation just before play started) and he was replaced by Sameer Dighe and probably he was at the non-striker's end ?

That Indian team had some lots of other players who played few games here and there during their career like Sairaj Bahutule, Sadagopan Ramesh, SS Das, etc

Indeed, it was Sameer Dighe

I think Mongia got injured in the series in the middle, ball/bail struck him in the eye I think and Sameer Dighe replaced him

When it comes to T20, England are in a different universe It's a big power game and unless the pitch is really doing something, even 220 may not be enough when batting first against them The moment we lost 4 quick wickets, it was at best going to be a big fightback just to stay afloat more than getting a decent total. Without big runs on the board, we weren't going anywhere in this game today.

Simply put, toss is key! Also, on playing XI, I think we went overboard with 3 spinners today.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So here's an interesting question based on the observation I made:

Observation:
Indian players aren't allowed to play T20 leagues around the world (Typical of BCCI flexing its muscles)

Question:
Do most Indian T20I players lack the killer instinct?

Reason I ask this:
1. Many T20 stars in England, Australia, & WI get contracts from BPL(Bangladesh), CPL(Caribbean), LPL(Sri Lanka), PSL(Pakistan), BBL(Big Bash - Australia), MSL(Mzansi - RSA) etc.
2. Being a part of a foreign player quota (max 4 foreigners in the playing 11) means they have to make maximum impact. Else, they will be warming the bench and risk losing contracts for subsequent seasons
3. OTOH, Indian players (barring the likes of Pandya or Dhoni in his prime) are expected to mostly accumulate runs and build the innings in the IPL. The finishing is taken care of by the specialist foreign players (like ABd in RCB or Pooran in KXIP)
4. The Indians players can have an average season but still play all games whereas stars like Chris Gayle & Lasith Malinga can find themselves on the bench if they don't perform in 3-4 games
5. Other than Dhoni, Yuvraj, and Pandya, I don't remember a middle/lower order Indian batsman who'd make the best bowlers nervous.

Should BCCI allow players to play in other foreign leagues? Despite having the biggest T20 league in the world, I don't think India has the firepower to beat top T20I side West Indies, England, or Australia.
