A great debut by Ishan Kishan. Looked solid till last couple of balls before he got out. I don't follow IPL so did not know of his heroics during the last edition. He played really well.
This is going to create Dhawan and Rahul. I see Rahul is favorite of many on this thread, may be due to IPL, but frankly I don't recollect many match winning knocks from him for Indian National Team 2019 onwards. With him donning the gloves, his spot was safer but now Pant being preferred in the wicket keeper role, even in the white ball matches, he'll have fight harder for his spot.
Don't see Dhawan being preferred over Rohit when it comes full strength team. The issue with Kohli, Rohit, Dhawan, Rahul is that all of them are similar in style where they take few balls to settle down and then play shots. There cannot be so many in top half with this approach. So Kohli and Hitman would be the preferred players.
I feel with this problem of plenty in all roles, be it batters, bowlers, all rounders, the days of cutting the slack for a long time for few newcomers is over. Whoever is able to grab the opportunity in 1 or 2 chances he gets will be preferred.

KL Rahul has been unfortunate. Dhawan may have to sit out for a longer period of time. |
Let Kohli bench and I feel that Rahul shouldn't be benched. He might get into oblivion for sure.

As Viru bhai rightly said let Kohli bench. I feel that Rahul shouldn't be benched. He should play all T20s and ODIs of this season. If again benched he might get into oblivion for sure.

I feel with this problem of plenty. Players should be rotated in each tour just like England is doing.
While the problem of plenty is a good one to have, I think India will have to try and rotate players to give the deserving players a chance and also managing their workload and fitness. Ishan and Surya have been having enough match practice since the last IPL since they played the Syed Aushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare tournaments but Rahul has been in the squad and not making it to the playing XI and now it is showing with his failures in the first 2 T20I's. Also, as others have said, it's going to be very difficult for new players to make it to the squad unless someone else is performing badly and gets dropped. And, once they get the chance they need to prove themselves quickly.
BCCI in consultation with Gujarat Cricket Association Motera has decided to conduct the final three T20Is against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium behind closed doors.
Those who have purchased tickets for any or all three T20Is will be refunded and the process for the same will be announced in due course.

Another player who would have benefitted from playing domestic tournaments is Kuldeep Yadav. He got only a game or two and was part of AUS and ENG test squad which deprived him of much needed game time to get his confidence back.
Now, he will again be sidelined at IPL which will only dent his confidence further. Shastri had famously hailed him as the first option spin bowler for India in all foreign tours, sad to witness his fall.
P.S: Is it me or even you guys feel Hardik has become too chatty on the field. He is there in almost every frame in between overs or during reviews.
I guess the 3rd T20I is what I mean by India doesn't have the firepower to win T20Is. I'm reminded of the 2016 T20 WC semis:

If BCCI is serious about T20I cricket, it is time we start allowing Indian players to play in other leagues and build a team of specialists. We may win a T20I series with the current team, but one dominating 50 or 100 is enough to snatch a game away from the Indian team in knockouts.
Some really good suggestions from members here on allowing a set of players to play league cricket especially Big Bash and CPL. T20 culture in Australia and especially in WI can help bring in that firepower or aggressive approach the current team misses on.
BCCI should allow the below players to be part of few of the best leagues been played internationally.
S Samson
S Iyer
Surya Kumar Yadav
M Pandey
I Kishan
K Pandya
T Natrajan
M Siraj
B Kumar
K Yadav
R Tewatia
V Chakravarty
Y Chahal

Why only a selected few players? If players get a better deal at the expense of losing out on BCCI/state/corporate salary, for that period, then so be it. It should be a player's choice. No wonder certain players from WI, Eng and even AFG have great stats when it comes to T20.

These players are exclusive to T20 for India. I don't think any league pays more than the IPL does to the players. More so, we don't want to end up like WI where players prefer league cricket over national team. Though this can never happen with Indian Cricket, so basically to keep the workload in check only a set of exclusive T20 players should be allowed to play limited international leagues. We also have pretty good domestic T20 leagues now. But an exposure with international players will bring in the right attitude and change the way we traditionally approach a cricket game.

In a way, this makes sense. The way several foreign players are sought after for IPL, how many Indian players would foreign leagues aggressively bid for?
Kohli
Rohit Sharma
Bumrah
Maybe even Hardik
Who else? Sure, a lot more players could be picked but how many do the kind of impact to make the cut (assuming only four foreign players/playing XI). BCCI's restrictive T20 policy is making other teams better, without doubt.
The concern of missing firepower comes because KL Rahul fails at the top. Him being out of form is affecting India big time. In spite of his form, I think we should stick with Rahul and Rohit at the top and Ishan at one down. All three of them has the skills to start hitting immediately and if one of them fires, we will be in a winning position.
In bowling, Chahal's economy is a concern. It was evident in the last game too. But I don't think we have another choice as of now. Sundar gets selected automatically because of his skills in restricting runs and since he is an off-spinner, we have to go with a different type of spinner in the other slot. Axar is too predictable and Chahal seems slightly better than him. That said, why Kohli stuck with Chahal in the power play is a mystery to me. When you have a bowler who can give you an almost guaranteed 6 runs per over, going with Chahal in power play felt like a gamble.
There is a WA joke doing the rounds for Rahul’s scores of 1,0,0 in this series.
In a stadium named after Narendra Modi, a Rahul can never succeed.
Team India squad for Paytm ODI series against England announced.

One more loss to Kohli in toss. Do we have any stats on how bad Kohli is when it comes to winning the toss? I do not even remember when was the last time he won the majority of the tosses in a series?
