What a brilliant way to get to his maiden overseas test hundred. Now, fingers crossed again for a double century.

2 centuries gor India and both from the openers

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a knock from the "HITMAN"!
His slowest test hundred by a fair margin, but easily one of his best. Rohith-Pujara partnership is slowly but surely taking India to a position of strength.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rohit has very well this series; this could be a match saving and match winning knock from the ' hit man'. If the middle order chips in with useful contributions, this could go our way.
The bowlers need a decent total to exert pressure on the inconsistent English batsmen.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Well played Rohit and Pujara. Hope the remaining 7 wickets make at least 150 runs more. That would give the bowlers something to defend.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rohit and Pujara played great knocks. Rohit finally got his first overseas test century and is now the first/only player to have centuries in England in all formats of the game

After all that hard work, lost 2 quick wickets of both well set batsmen and luckily Kohli and Jadeja held fort till end of day.

I'm just praying yet again that we see off the first session of Day 4. If we get a lead of 250+, it won't be easy for England to chase it down in the fourth inning.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Just finished watching highlights of today's play.
Rahul was really good. Rohit's century was a treat to watch. Again got out to a pull shot which is his strength in white ball but becoming his weakness in red ball. Was looking so good for a double ton. Rohit is no doubt the best opener in world cricket right now. Pujara was brilliant, the moment he thinks about scoring runs along with his tight defense he is in a different zone. Unlucky to get an inside edge on his body and caught in slips.

Jadeja at 5 in both innings is a clear indication Rahane will be dropped soon. Kohli looked in control for his 22 and hopefully they both can see off the first hour tomorrow. Lead above 250 and we can start relaxing as 4th innings pressure may get to England even though pitch looks suitable to batting. I hope Pant can apply some brain this time and Thakur can smack a few to get lead to 300 or above. All in all this is a terrific comeback after 191 and giving a 99 run lead.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rohit has been enhancing his muscle memory on tour. I read somewhere that he keeps his hands inside his pockets ALL the time. It has helped him keep his hands close to his body while batting (muscle memory), and not chase after balls.

Re: The Cricket Thread

When we speak about hitting a six to bring up a milestone, immediate name which come to our mind is that of Sehwag. Seldom people know who has reached a century most times by hitting a six.

Sehwag has got to a double and triple with a six. He also got out at 195 in Australia while trying to hit a six to get to his double.

Don't think we're out of the woods yet! 200 is a fighting target but we really need to set minimum 250 atleast. And hope the sun is out when we bat & overcast when we bowl.It still is a decent batting track.

Agreed. I actually think we will need a lot more than 250, as there's a lot of time left in this test, and their batting is looking more robust after the inclusion of Malan, Pope and Woakes.

I will say minimum 300. Track looks batting friendly, sun is out. Kohli and Jadeja looks determined. 3 more batsman to follow these 2. Another 130-150 more runs is expected and shouldn't be a problem.

True. However, the form of 2 of those 3 batsmen doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence at the moment. That's why the bulk of the lead needs to be scored by Kohli and Jadeja, plus maybe a handy cameo of 25-30 by Thakur.

EDIT: Jadeja, Rahane gone. Eng will have their tails up now.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rahane should have played his last innings for a long time. On a flat pitch, with a good chance to win, he could not last more than 10 balls!

I just hope rest of the line up stays on atleast to score 100 more runs. We need 300. Anything less does not look defensible unless the pitch changes character completely.

Kohli & Shastri think otherwise. Now, I wont be surprised that Rahane plays the next test match as well. With IPL and T20 WC coming up, people would forget the extended opportunities given to Rahane.

Earlier post had 200/300 additional runs over the overnight score. Considering the form I feel lets keep 100 as the 1st target.
