Sacrilege!

No more inner circle sound bytes for you my boy.

You've just been dispatched to Indian cricketing vanvas.

Cheers, Doc

It is laughable that they should bring Dhoni in as mentor. What impact did he, as captain, have on all the T20 WC matches after 2007 until 2019?
It is no doubt an attempt to keep his image alive as a great cricketing mind; the BCCI obviously will do anything to keep its cash churner, the IPL popular.
The myth of Dhoni lives on.

Next coach after Shastri? Remote possibility?

Seems likely!
But I am afraid what will happen to Dhoni's participation in IPL in the future. Conflict of interest? It is OK for this year I believe as IPL finishes before the WC.

Re: The Cricket Thread

We are an output driven cricket community. If we end up winning, Dhoni would be a masterstroke and selectors would be praised for foresight. If the reverse happens, "See, I told you" will be the tagline. All the heat around exclusion of Ashwin in just concluded test match died in one session on final day.

There are only 11 players who can play and the amount of talent that we have, we can play world cup with our own teams competing against each other. The commentary over who has been picked versus dropped can never halt.

That was the 1st thought I had as well. Most coaches have gone through the 'Mentor' role and this could be an internal thing to let Dhoni have a look into the current setup. If we manage to do well in this world cup and Dhoni is fine with the working, you never know.

Another support staff tested positive. I guess we'll know soon if the 5th Test is going ahead or not!

The biggest issue is this.

Quote:
The concerning issue for the Indian team is that Parmar has been testing several players suffering various niggles including Rohit Sharma (knee), Cheteshwar Pujara (ankle) and Ravindra Jadeja (knee), as well as the pair of Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma who missed the fourth Test.
That is half the Playing 11 Indian Squad right there!!

They can't even push dates around with IPL starting in 10 days, guess we might not see these players in first week of IPL too.

Don't think Dhoni will take a full time coaching job right now. He likes spending time at his farms and with his bikes and family. This mentor appointment is more in line with availability as Dhoni will be in UAE for IPL so BCCI must have asked him to extend his stay and mentor the team. Also, Vikram Rathore is being talked about as Shastri's replacement.

I believe you are underestimating his cricket brain. Let's not forget he won the T20 world cup and then ODI world cup too. Not a small achievement for any Indian captain. And his CSK exploits are well known. I am not the biggest fan of Dhoni but as a white ball strategist I regard him very highly.

This looks like a short term mentorship. As and when he decides for full time coaching I am sure he won't be playing.

As per reports ECB can't afford to cancel the match so if any 11 members of both teams test negative they will take the field.

If it's cancelled we still win the series

Re: The Cricket Thread

All the players of the Indian squad tested negative for Covid-19. 5th test likely to remain unaffected.

Report

In other news, USA's Jaskaran Malhotra clobbered 6 sixes in an over to become the fourth batsman overall to achieve the feat in International cricket.

It seems they are holding off, breaking news says the test won't start today.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Seems like Ashwin may indeed play today in the fifth test since Jadeja has a niggle (ankle sprain). Bumrah will probably be rested and replaced by Shami.

Hope there are no more Covid scares.

On India's T20 World Cup squad, good move to get Varun Chakravarthy, he is an intelligent and thinking bowler but underrated, fitness has been a challenge for him and he missed out playing in the Australian series also due to that.

Will the fifth test be postponed by any chance ?

Edit:the test has been cancelled!
