We needed to win by a minimum 63 runs to get our NRR +ve and we almost got it messed. Afghanistan is good enough for an 'upset' against NZ

Rahul Dravid becoming the Head Coach was a great news. Any idea who all had applied?
Yes maybe I am being harsh, but hebia definitely not ready for international cricket yet, has no experience and starts playing ahead of one of really good spinners, because captain thinks so. Not a good idea.

Guess after people knew dravid is applying no one turned up

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am surprised that Pandya was assigned to bowl the final over. Jadeja should have bowled it IMO. After bossing the game for 34-35 overs, I felt India leaked far too many runs at the back-end. IF other match results go India's way, these extra few runs might prove crucial.

It’s almost as if the team management wants to justify his place in the team.

Have to agree with Vaughan here. England and West Indies a template of new style of T20 cricket going to gung-ho from ball 1. Even RSA & Pakistan are doing this to some extent. India and Australia is relying on accumulators and accelerating at the end which is more suited for ODI cricket.

India needs some new thinking. Time for Kohli to move on captaincy for all limited overs and focus on contributing as a batsman over the next 4-5 years.

They wanted to make sure that we win by a margin close to 63 runs

There is a video been circulated on Twitter on the Toss. Kohli is been heard saying to Nabi "you will bowl first" and like always Pakistanis are claiming the match to be fixed.

We must agree after all who knows it better than Pakistan

Re: The Cricket Thread

Two big wins and India's Net Run Rate(NRR) has skyrocketed to +1.619! From being second worst to second best now, only behind England(+3.183) among the Super 12s. Infact India's NRR is the best in its group at the moment!

After India’s match with Namibia, the NRR will definitely rise too but the only way India can qualify is if Afghanistan beats New Zealand and in my opinion there’s only a 5% chance of it happening but I hope it does happen and India qualifies

Re: The Cricket Thread

I see so many posts on T20 World Cup.
Anyone keeping an eye on the recent sad developments at Yorkshire Cricket Club? Or is it against TBHP poilcy to discuss issues like racism?
I for one am absolutely flabbergasted by the revelations from Rafeeq and the subsequent handling of the issue by the Yorkshire board.

Re: The Cricket Thread

There’s an air of jingoism among commentators and presenters when they speak about India. No disrespect to the oppositions in the previous 2 games, but India thrashing them isn’t really surprising. India have looked sub standard in the entire tournament.

I don’t know the reason, I’d put it down to continuous travel and non-stop cricket for months.

I’m following this and topics like transformation/SJN hearings (RSA). It is very painful to see how things work behind the scene, especially for the minority groups.

While I’m glad that these hidden stories are coming out and players, administrators, and concerned officials are {/sometimes not :(} working towards improving the situation, I think there are platforms and forums to discuss it.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I’ve been following the Yorkshire topic as well. Sad indeed.

And for a former England Under 19 captain to say that he wanted to take his own life means that there is more to what we get to read. I hope they do pull up some actions very quickly at a County board level.

I am following it since the start of allegations.

Finally, ECB has woken up and suspended Yorkshire. Something they should have done at the start itself. Just read Darren Gough supporting Rafiq since the start and inquiring his well being, especially when he had suicidal thoughts.

Also, it's heartening to see most English people are supporting Rafiq and condemning Yorkshire.

Michael Vaughan seeks controversy, now he is in one of his own making. BBC has already stopped his hosting. Rana Naved has confirmed he indeed made those racist comments against Rafiq. He can't eacape this.

Also, a big shoutout for Dobell who relentlessly pursued it and supported Rafiq through and through. We need more such integrity loving journalist.

....
+1 to your post . Completely agree with it.
At least ECB did something late. Our BCCI did nothing when Darren Sammy had spoken about racist/pejorative remarks made by IPL players sometime ago. Generally, we Indians have an affinity towards fairer skin and can be rude towards people of other race / skin colour without knowing it.

Off topic: When studying in Bangalore around 2003, I once had a college mate (who was from North India and coming to South for the first time in his life) ask me innocently "Hi! I did not know that people down South also had fairer skin. I was told by my family and friends in my home town that - You are going to Bangalore down south. Everybody is dark-skinned Kaali there, including the girls. Good luck. You are doomed" . I was mad as hell but he did not even understand why I was mad!

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think for Dravid to have maximum impact, Kohli should leave all forms of captaincy. This is the time for a rebuild and it is best done with a new younger captain who can do that job atleast for 5 years. Kohli had his chance; though he did not win any major international trophies, we had our share of fun with many top class duels and memorable wins overseas. It is now time for him to leave captaincy and concentrate on his batting. Kohli in top form without the pressure of captaincy can win far more games for India than Kohli, the captain in the remaining 3-4 years of his career.
