Re: The Cricket Thread

^^ Agree.

270 odd for 6 is a pretty good start for us. Would have liked to see MSD being a little more agressive once the tail came in, but we Indians have this habit of giving more than just a little rope for the other team to crawl back into it.

Australia would not be too happy. They would have ideally liked to finish the day at 300 for 4. It's nice to see Ponting strike some form. There still seems to be some life in him.

Lots of decisions didn't go their way. What if it happened to us. Hmm..

Re: The Cricket Thread

That was a little disappointing.

The day went pretty well, with Sehwag getting us off to a good start. And Dravid and Tendulkar registering their umpteenth Century-partnership out in the middle. Tendulkar looked ominous and this time, I really thought he'd get that elusive 100th century. But I guess it'll have to wait another day. Geez, I've been saying that for quite a while now.

Ideally, I'd like to see Ishant plucking it out in the middle and giving company to Dravid who isn't far away from his 100. But he seems to make it look like it is, today. Dravid didn't look his best out there, and a few close shaves had several on the edge, including himself. But he's a fighter and it'll be great to watch him take the Indian team to a very commanding 1st inning's lead. Let's hope a night's rest will help those cramps and he'll be fit and raring to go tomorrow.

Kohli, Laxman, Dhoni are yet to strut their stuff, and let's hope they do, and give India a chance to secure a 1-0

Re: The Cricket Thread

Was making plans for tomorrow morning to witness the much anticipated 100th 100 but unfortunately Tendulkar got out! Match is nicely poised at the moment & we need to somehow reach 400 atleast.
We generally don't win the first match of an overseas tour but i feel by tomorrow we will know which way the match is headed.

Also, why aren't Harsha Bhogle & Sunil Gavaskar part of the Commentary Team?

Harsha is doing radio commentary and Sunny must be miffed with BCCI not giving him 4 Cr

Re: The Cricket Thread

On a lighter note, it would help Dravid if he didn't know the fielding positions set. It would make him score more runs !!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Am i the only one or anyone else has noticed this ?
Off late i find Ravi Shastri's commentary extremely biased. Even when it comes to Indian players he is showing a lot of favoritism.
On a different note, am really missing Harsha Bhogle in this series.

Re: The Cricket Thread

While I am not missing either Harsha or Sunny I am left wondering as to who is the desi commentator this time around on Star cricket. The guy neither has any throw in his vocal cords nor does he have command on the language. Worse he suffers from the disease called 'one up on you' and must comment and counter comment on any and everything that the other guy has to say. The chap simply does not know how to keep his mouth shut. YUCK is the word for loss of any other that can express my disgust for this guy's blah blah..

At least we are that much better off. I thought it was now revised to 5 crores as the dollar increased it's strength.

Did anyone notice this ? The first over of the first day started off with the channel 9 commentary team of Richie Benaud, Mark Taylor and Bill Lawry. I was so damn excited as even the pre match blah blah was done by a new presenter. I thought this is going to be heaven like in those DD days. But the next over it was back to the miff shastri. Only Ian and to a certain extent Tom have useful comments and insights to the game, yes Ganguly too.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Test cricket never ceases to amaze me.

Yesterday afternoon, I was very happy to see India giving a strong reply against everybody's expectations (and in the first match of a series)
Today woke up at 6:30am and saw the score of 248-7...disapointed I got ready to go to office.
Here I come to office and when I open cricinfo, I see 27-4 (effectively 78-4)
What a see-saw of a game...Go Umesh, get a 5-for on your debut.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Another collapse. If it weren't for R Ashwin, we would have been looking at a daunting 250 and more already! But he needs to get MSD to set the field. Why isn't MSD attacking at all? I just don't understand that at all.
