Its all about being the prima donna, since the "Kuch Different Karo" ad, and being paid more than, you know who, Dhoni has had everything stacked against him. Then the Harbhajan controversy. Then the England tour, all downhill from there, no end in sight, till Dhoni is given a team like the 2007 T20 team.

Marriage or no marriage, the fault is people were ready to pay more for India's world cup winning captain than one of India most loved and oldest cricket player. Sad, because we love them all, if only they could find a way to work things out and play together.

Ian Chappell had something to say about India's debacle in Australia. He said that the reason it is hard to be objective about players like Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman (and he really loves Laxman) is because of our "star" culture. We look at cricketers as demi-gods. He said, people in India do not get too worked up if Sachin makes a 100 and the team loses. Basically, the individuals seem to matter more than the team. But in other countries, like Australia, England and South Africa, players past their prime are easy to axe because everyone understands what is good for the team.

I think he is right on the money.

In both the articles the authors were self contradicting. Nevertheless they have made some very good points which reflects the state of Indian cricket. The media should publish more such articles for the awareness of the common man. There is no better time than now to do that.

In the past 2 weeks almost all of the media and some ex-cricketers have subtly given the message to the seniors to exit gracefully.

Today's DC has an article on what these cricketers might do post retirement
There's even a comment by Ajit Wadekar that Sachin wouldn't have got into the team at such an young age, if Sunny and Jimmy had continued playing till 40.

If i am not mistaken the message has been given only to Laxman(after Sydney) and Dravid(after Adelaide) and never to Sachin.
Dravid might in all probability win the Test cricketer of the year award for 2011. In only Jan 2012 ex-cricketers and media feel he is past his prime and want him to retire.
If this is what we have for Dravid then i am not sure as to on what basis do people want Sachin to continue. Is it for 100th 100, 200th test, 500th Odi , 20000 odi runs, 100 odi 50's and the list goes on. Do we really have to wait for him to complete all these personal records at the expense of re-building a team ?

Dhoni tried hard but all in vain. I actually switched off TV after Jadeja got out but surprised that they didn't lost a wicket till the end. Come on India you can do it, better luck next time. The team has talent but just need to exploit it.

PS - Sehwag is very irresponsible player.

dont understand all the hoopla here with the test loss. isint everybody just winning everyhting at home and losing away at the moment in world cricket. i mean eng are no 1 test side but lost away to pak who are No. ??? in world cricket right now! then how are eng a legitimate no. 1 ???

there is no test in test matches anymore. t20 has reshaped cricket!

Thats one way to console ourselves saying that other teams are not doing away from home England are bad in the subcontinent but they have won test series in Aus/SA something that the Indian cricket team has not been able to achieve ever . England have whitewashed India(then world no.1).We were not able to whitewash even the lowly ranked West Indies at home.So compared to our team England are miles ahead.

Considering the fact that India will be playing in the sub-continent for the next 2 years, it would be ideal to phase out all 3 seniors in the next series, like one after each test.
Find a pair of solid 'Test Class' openers. Move Sehwag, Ghambir down the order with Virat at number 3 and Rohit at number 6. It would be really foolish to persist with 39 year olds in the team for home series.
