Its so interesting to see so many people earning a living analyzing the little master. Its there on so many channels on the print as well as the TV media.

If nothing else Sachin not retiring yet is a source of employment for these people. I wonder what they will do once he is long gone.

If you check records for last 1 or 2 years, people will see Sachin has done much better than Sehwag and Gambhir.

Sehwag was miserable in the 3 overseas tours - South Africa, Australia and England. Gambhir averages in the 20s in the last few years.

well performances dont matter. Only age does.

Why couldnt Sachin just retire after India won the world cup. Entirely his mistake.

Hmmm, come to think of it, not only the cheap Indian media, even the BCCI, ICC and everyone around the world enjoyed his success (meaning they made a livelihood, nay fortunes out of his success). So, it is not a surprise when the desperadoes call for his head, actually want to make themselves famous and rich like their predecessors did when Sachin was 16. We know that already, right ?

Do I want Sachin to hang up his boots ? YES.
Do I think I am the right person to Judge him ? Hell, no.

By the time he is gone, probably they would have also retired

But on a relatively more serious note, our media is capable of cooking breaking news on anything and everything, with or without Sachin.

As for the series, i think the highlight of the series has been the temperament that Virat has shown in his innings. The two test matches were played on pitches that were as different as chalk and cheese and in both of them, he was able to stamp his authority on the bowling attack.

The selectors need to do a Cost To Benefit analysis on Viru as well.

This is so absurd, even while watching a IPL match for 3 hours in the night, one ends up spending anywhere between 300 to 500 for water (for a family), imagine a full day on a hot summer. Someone's got to think of more rational answers to this.
Unfortunately, we ourselves are to blame for this! When I say we, I mean the general public and the angry Indian fan who loves flinging these bottles onto the field. Not to mention the racket they make with these bottles by banging them against the seats.

Remember the plastic-bottle fiasco earlier in the previous decade?

Re: The Cricket Thread

Many such people have retired with fat benefits and they will continue to do so until Sachin retires. Gavaskar has not yet retired, even though his ultimatum to Sachin (when he was less than 20? )was accomplished (50 test hundreds and 15k runs in Tests).

Maybe after that, they will pick on Kohli. After all he is very young and there are quite a few years to go, maybe he is the next "Mr. whatever whatever" , after he reaches some milestones (and many miles to go for these leeches to have their say and eek a living out of it). Thankless.

Agreed, we are the ones to blame for all these strict rules, but what harm has a PET bottle caused in a cricket field to hurt players or to disrupt play ? Throwing bottles into the ground was not the ONLY reason they were stopped. I am sure the LE (and they are so many) can prevent people from throwing these bottles on to the field. In that case, there are stalls selling pastry and noodles and channa which can also be thrown inside a field, all of which including the PET bottles will not harm anyone. It is the money minded people who do not care a hoot about the basic facilities of a paying fan that spoil the experience.

Ok, thinking again, here is my suggestion. If security was the only reason that they do not allow water bottles, then why not add Rs.50 to every ticket (optional) and let each person have the right to say 3-5 ltrs of water at any of the stalls ?

The bottle can't but the contents in a bottle can. It's very easy to take a bottle filled with vodka or methanol, and can be easily made into a fire grenade. It has happened on numerous occasions during football matches.

Then, why ban the sale of water bottles inside the stadium ?

Re: The Cricket Thread

Is it really that expensive to keep water purifiers in the stadium? If they are worried about costs of plastic disposable glasses, they could tie a metal chain to a steel tumbler and leave it there.

As for news channels, they talk about Sachins retirement because it will attract viewers. how many will watch if they ask for Gambhirs retirement?

Isn't he supposed to be the captain in waiting in case Dhoni stops playing in tests.

A captain will always find place in the team. Ask Sourav.

Expense should never be a problem in cricket, but it is the income which is being taken care of than the fans who bring in the income. Any small way, they can make money, they do it, there is no other way to understand this very basic need for water.

Good one about Gambhir's retirement. Lol.

Re: The Cricket Thread

As per today's TOI editorial, it was the Bombay duo's (Gavaskar and Manjrekar) 'advice' thru newspaper columns that forced Laxman to quit. Wonder if these two would provide the same advice to their State-mate a.k.a Demi-God a.k.a Joker (to a few of us).
