Re: The Cricket Thread

I think Harbhajan Singh should be included in the squad for Test matches since Ashwin doesn't seem to trouble batsmen at all abroad. Although this might be a backward step but considering Harbhajan has played over 100 test matches and is no mug with the bat it may prove to be a good move. He did have a terrible series in England but who knows the will to succeed and no guaranteed spot might help in him supporting our bowlers with a few wickets. Also, even if Dhoni doesn't play Bhajji it will keep Ashwin on his toes. Sir Jaddu is not justifying his number 7 spot and his dismissal at durban seemed more apt for a tail-ender rather than a player who's scored triple hundreds.

You've gotta be kidding me, Harbhajan ???

Time to invest in a young spinner, IMO. Sir Jadeja might be batting like a tailender, but is definitely bowling like a specialist spinner should. I would pick him ahead of Ashwin anyday, especially abroad.

Exactly, Jadeja is a much better option than Ashwin. I don't get what is stopping us from trying Rasool.

I was not talking about playing him as a front line spinner but just to keep Ashwin on his toes. Besides on pitches like Australia and SA Harbhajan might be fare better (test matches)

Sir Jaddu proved us wrong today with his batting. Yet to see the highlights was following the match online.

Also cricinfo now is delaying its coverage due to a Delhi High Court Order which will affect people like me who follow the match from work. It's behind by almost 4-5 overs

Re: The Cricket Thread

Gotta say that as much as his team selection is baffling, he makes some smart moves. The decision to send Ashwin ahead of Sir Jadeja worked like a charm.

And if I were Ashwin, I would actually pray that Harbhajan gets selected in the playing eleven. He would bowl so badly that it would it would make me look like the best alternate spinner.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Anyone watching the Ranji final? Karnataka seem to be in a strong position at 194 without loss against 305 of Maharastra.
I found it baffling that a Group C team was given a bye into quarter final directly.

I was. They ended the day at 230 without loss in reply to Maharashtra's 305 all out. Maharashtra dropped as many as 5 catches - three of them sitters. With all wickets intact, hope Karnataka will get to around 500+.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Congratulations to Karnataka team. Much deserved win. 6 straight wins & 7th robbed due to bad weather and finally outright win on dead pitch in final.

Any idea why BCCI planned to play it in neutral venue ? It would have been great to see some spectators for the final. Such a shame for premier cricket tournament of the country. Or has IPL taken that away from Ranji ?

Looks like Ashwin's prayers have been answered.

Harby is back in the reckoning. Named captain to lead the Rest of India team in the Irani Trophy match against the Ranji champions Karnataka.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Not sure why some of you are so up against Harbhajan. He is far better tham Ashwin and we have seen the proof recently. Ashwin never had the class and was only selected because of his IPL performances.

However Dhoni should have tried Mishra for at least few matches in the previous matches. But we all know now how stubborn he is for players like Raina,Ashwin and Jadeja.(All CSK players)

But out of Harbhajan and Ashwin, Harbhajan is better bowler than Ashwin when both are either out of form or inform.
