Re: The Cricket Thread

Looks like English batting is all about Cook, Root, Bairstow and Stokes. One early wicket and India will have the upper hand in the game tomorrow.

Ashwin finally dismissed Hammed. Not sure England can sustain their blockathon.

I am impressed with the way the South Africans ( De Villiers and Amla) and now England ( Cook and Hamid) are able to do blockathons in Indian conditions while none of our batsmen are able to do so.

They literally messed up in 2nd innings of the last match which should have been drawn easily. Instead they gave England a real chance to win. That was less than 60 overs.

No one in this present team is even remotely capable of doing such a thing. I really started admiring De Villiers after that knock. A batsman who can score 100 of 30 and also 43 off 300+ balls f required to draw a match.

Don't forget the other blockathon partnership De Villiers had with Faf du Plessis. India went from a position of an easy win to almost losing it .

Re: The Cricket Thread

Will India manage to get the remaining 9 English wicket in 3 sessions of play on Day 5 or will England manage a draw ?
I'm surprised the pitch has lasted 4 days without doing anything extraordinary (given all that has been said about it), now let's see how Day 5 pans out.

8 wickets right?

We should be able too. We need long spells spells from the spinners and quick bursts from the seamers.

Jayant Yadav has been underbowled.

The odd ball is keeping low, but it's not done too much. I think this series has not given our spinners what they like- square turners. We should be able to get England all out by the end of two sessions.

Re: The Cricket Thread

All recognized English batsmen are back in the pavilion now, 115 for 6, just 4 more wickets for an Indian victory

Re: The Cricket Thread

Yep, just need Bairstow now and the rest should follow.

Do not see Duck-ett playing the next game. Balance or Butler will replace him, depending on if they want a steady or attacking player.

Re: The Cricket Thread

It was a given that we would be in a winning position provided we won the toss & put 400+ on board. It was a blessing in disguise that we got all out for 200 in the 2nd innings else the innings would have lingered on & we would have been thinking too much on how much score to set & how many overs we need to bowl out the opposition, the mistake which England made in previous test!

Looks like he may run out of partners at the other end and remain unbeaten, now they're 8 down with Rashid and Ansari gone. Stuart Broad and Bairstow batting now. Oh, Broad can bat a bit, right ?

He used to be a very decent bat, but while his bowling has improved the batting has gone down a few notches. Plus he is injured so.....

Edit: Done and dusted. 1-0

Yes, Broad has 1 century (169) and 10 fifties too but his batting form has gone down quite a bit and he was hobbling around yesterday with the injury.

And Bairstow remains not out

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kohli is all praise for Jayant Yadav . I did not see this match on TV, so cannot comment firsthand but hope he is in it for the long haul.

For a young man to come in and have the vision to take wickets and to tell you about the fields and the lines to bowl the batsman out. You know this guy knows what he's doing. Even the revs on the ball and the speed he bowled with. I knew the batsmen were uncomfortable against him.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Australia lose two matches badly
Australian media and fans find a target in Faf du plessis
ICC finds him guilty of ball tampering and fines him 100% of his match fees bowing to the pressure
Being put to bat, SA loses quick wickets for very few runs in the third test
People Boo Faf when he enters the ground for batting
He gives a fitting reply by scoring a wonderful century
As if that was not enough, he declares the South African innings at 259/9 with he himself being not out at 118
Now that's called a tight slap. I just loved it!
