Re: The Cricket Thread

It isn't over yet; a lead of 125 could be very interesting and 175 may be conclusive.

I could understand Karun Nair being given a promotion in the batting order but Jadeja being promoted is inexplicable! Questionable captaincy by Virat.
First he was underbowled & then maybe to compensate he was promoted in the batting lineup. Jadeja has been in woeful form with the bat in last few months save 1-2 innings.

I doubt that; the Aus lineup has shown tremendous bite. Anything less than 200 won't give our bowlers enough to defend.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Cricket is uncertain - and it also depends on holding the catches, good DRS calls and using the right bowling. That apart, some Australian could pull out a blinder. But if we lose with a 175 lead on this pitch, we deserve to.

Re: The Cricket Thread

At 207 for 4 and leading now by 120 runs with 6 wickets still standing, it is surely game on !

Re: The Cricket Thread

Nice one by Mr Manjrekar - the pitch is like the curious case of Benjamin Button, it is becoming younger and easier to play on as it grows older.

That better not be the case!

Or maybe, for once, the Indian batters - Rahul, Pujara and Rahane specifically - are applying themselves and digging in, instead of resorting to reckless shots. Let's hope that that's the case.

Re: The Cricket Thread

A quote from the Indian team management today:
"We are new to DRS and the rules have also been tweaked a bit, so it is very much the umpire's call has become really crucial, and we haven't really sat down and evaluated but that is the way it is, it's new to us and we are learning from the number of games we are playing with DRS, we are in the learning curve".

These highly paid people can get away with silly statements like this? Not sat down and evaluated? Why not? It takes so long for the tube lights to come on as to how DRS is applied? And this is the first season where it is being used in India in a test series, but India has played and used DRS in multi lateral tournaments for some years now.

But on a serious note, its really the wicket keeper & the close-in fielders who have to give inputs when it comes to DRS. That isn't quite happening. The bowler & captain are way too excited always.

Normally when the batsmen start applying themselves, pitches seem to ease out.

I must say I am pleasantly surprised. Are we seeing the 'VVS Laxman - Rahul Dravid' moment for this team? Before that match Dravid was struggling for runs just how Rahane is now. Infact Dravid was even demoted in that innings. India lost the first match inside 3 days and had an equally disastrous first innings in the second test.

If Pujaara and Rahane play on till lunch tmrw, I will start being bullish on our chance in this match. Till then its a distant chance.

you spoke too early!

In the current scenario, atleast a lead of 180 should give us something to bowl at

Re: The Cricket Thread

Complete brain fade/lack of application. This isn't a wicket to drive on, and both Ashwin and Nair perished doing just that even before getting their eye in. Yadav was just as foolish but he is no batsman.

On the other hand, if all we could do on this pitch on day 1 was 189, the best spinners in the world have enough now on the same pitch on day 4 to spin out Australia?

If we lose now, we will have been outthought and outplayed by Australia twice in a fortnight. In our galli.

175 ... you told conclusive (and yet you wrote may be).
189 ... you are still not sure

The lead is 185 at present. Let's see how this pans out. I hope your first thought comes true
