Re: The Cricket Thread

The boundary count would no longer be used to determine the winner in the case of a tie in a super over. Super overs would be continued till a winner emerges.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The current Indian test line up is good:

1. Rohit Sharma Batsman
2. Mayank Agarwal Batsman
3. Cheteshwar Pujara Batsman
4. Virat Kohli (c) Batsman
5. Ajinkya Rahane Batsman
6. Ravindra Jadeja Spin Allrounder
7. Wriddhiman Saha † Wicketkeeper
8. Ravichandran Ashwin Spin Allrounder
9. Ishant Sharma Bowler
10. Mohammed Shami Bowler
11. Umesh Yadav Bowler

For overseas tests, Rohit Sharma must step out for a better opener.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Yet another dominating win for India against Bangladesh at Indore. The best part once again is the second innings performance of Shami. He's becoming more of a second innings specialist. Hope he exploits the same with pink ball too. As per ESPN article, he was unplayable in a day-night club match played in 2016 in Kolkata between Mohun Bagan and Bhowanipore.

Re: The Cricket Thread

For those who don't understand Hindi, here's a TLDR version:
1. Sehwag expects pink ball to swing more
2. Dusk is a critical time in the D/N game.
3. Eden Gardens is the right place to play the first D/N Test in India
4. Bangladesh can't win unless they take 20 wickets. If conditions are helpful for Bangladeshi bowlers, Indian bowlers will dominate.

What would your team look like with Bhumrah, Vihari Hardik, Shaw and Bhuvi ready to play Test cricket. Add Kuldeep to the confusion and there is really healthy competition especially for pace bowlers.

Mine would be-

In Asia :

R Sharma
M Agrawal
C Pujara
V Kohli
A Rahane
H Pandya
R Jadeja
W Saha
R Ashwin
J Bhumrah
M Shami

Outside Asia:

Would Replace Rahane with Vihari. Rahane though good has been getting extended run even though he isn't being a match winner.

I was lucky enough to witness the first ever pink ball test(Aus vs NZ) right from the stands in Adelaide Oval back in 2015. Even there the pink ball was doing a bit around dusk under the lights. But then as it was summer over there(Nov/Dec), sun used to set pretty late(7:30-8PM) so not much of play was left under lights. Here though in Kolkata sun sets pretty early(~5PM) & we can expect atleast 1 session under lights. Would be interesting to see if bowlers are effective or the dew spoils their party.

A couple of pics from the Aus/NZ match. It was my first ever cricket match in a stadium experience. Lovely memories

Bumrah for Ishant
Bhuvi for Umesh
Any 2 among Kuldeep, Ashwin & Jadeja depending on pitch.
Hardik for Jadeja in case the pitch assists seamers.
It is a toss between Rahane & Vihari, though Rahane is more experienced.
Shaw hasn't played outside India and hence can replace Rohit for overseas tests.

So a lot depends on pitch & conditions.

The reserve opener is Shubhman Gill for the time being. Shaw may well be behind him in the pecking order.

Dont underestimate the Mumbai lobby. We wont even see it coming and Shaw will come ahead of Gill in the pecking order. Personally I want to see Gill as he has a better technique and temperament.

When bumrah comes back Ishant should make way if match is in India, in SENA umesh should make way. Rest of the team looks solid and in NZ we should play 3 Pacers, 1 spinner and 1 medium fast all rounder.

Anyways I am excited to see the first pink ball test. Though looking at first test it will be a miracle if this test goes into 4th and 5th day.

You are right. I had forgotten about the Mumbai lobby.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think BCCI is more worried that Cricket Australia is now adamant that India play D/N Test when they tour down under. Afterall, there are Championship points at stake!

Just hope he doesn't turn into another Vinod Kambli. He is by far the most ordinary fielder among the younger lot!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Our selectors latest obsession seems to be Shivam Dubey.

He seems to come with a reputation of being a hard hitting batsman who can bowl a bit of medium pace, exactly like '3D' Vijay Shankar (where has he disappeared?). Once again, same mistake is being repeated by tagging such players as All-Rounders which they're certainly not!

Re: The Cricket Thread

This Devdutt Padikkal is some player. I've been following his domestic performances for a while and he definitely is someone to watch out for. You should have seen him play today, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali semi final. Brilliant.

I hope he does well for RCB this year.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Pathetic bowling and sloppy fielding by India allowed West Indies to get to 207 in the first T20I. Let's see what our batsmen can do, can we win ? Remains to be seen, fingers crossed.

Feel Rohit Sharma century is on cards *fingers crossed*

This is a good test for the top 4. Chaseable but will need 3 good individual scores.

Edit: Before the Edit action is bypassed, Sharma is caught out. No I did not jinx it.
