Re: The Cricket Thread

Steve Smith raced to his century, he's made India's best bowling attack in recent years look pathetic! We're staring at a chase in excess of 380-400+ This game looks like a goner too.

Yes. The inevitable/vulnerable Pandya bowling is happening. And Aus turbo charger G.Maxwell is at crease who can easily propel to 370+ score.

In fact Pandya had the best economy

If we have 2 Kohlis and 2 Rohits both at their best and then some more good scores from others, we can chase down 390 and win

add 2 Pandyas to that list
Btw, we are just into 2nd match and this series already looks hopelessly one-sided to me! Imagine, what would happen in the test series!

Re: The Cricket Thread

These pitches are making the world class bowlers looks like street cricketers. Even in last match after getting to that flying start if Kohli showed some patience, it would have been much closer contest. But these things are bound to happen, I expect India will not bow down without a fight in Test series. For that matter, Rahane is much more level headed and will do good team selection. I love Kohli as a batsman but as a captain he is little adamant with his selections is what I believe.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a batting display. Another uphill task for Indians. Unless top order fires this time, we are staring at another defeat. Hope Kohli and Iyer get their act together. Jadeja and Pandya are good enough for some wee-end flourish but shouldn’t be left with 200+ to chase in 20 odd overs

P.S: I subscribed to SonyLIV for watching this series and ofcourse 1992 Harshad mehta scam(use Chromecast for watching on TV). What a buggy interface. Feels spartan compared to Amazon prime and hotstar.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think Glen Maxwell single handedly took both the matches. 45 of 19 in match 1 and 63 of 29 in match 2 in the death overs.

I think time has come to remove kohli as captain of ODI and T20 Team. Batsman still did decently in both matches, but bowlers have been just woefully out of form.

It was like Scam 2020. All Australians who did not perform in the IPL have been the star performers. Probably they were saving their energy and best for the country He even apologised to KL Rahul during the first ODI (obviously as a banter)

Yeah but Rohit Sharma looks like he is already hung his boot for international cricket. His fitness and body language is such that he is happy living a laid back life now. In IPL, everytime he chased a ball it looked like he would injure himself.

However, R Sharma definitely has that acumen to take good decisions on field and tactfully change the momentum of a game.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Disappointing. If this is how it will all play out, Kohli will be happy he gets to skip out halfway through the series.

After (and during) the IPL there was a lot of talk as to how talented India's fast bowling is as a whole. Now, Finch and co. have totally decimated it. Maybe, just maybe, Rohit should be allowed to captain atleast the T20s full time now?? All that RCB favouritism won't pay off well at all... Saini has quite gone for runs, gave away enough to make Hardik bowl, when only a couple days ago he said he won't bowl anytime soon

Good chance to give Natarajan a place in the XI, and possibly Kuldeep in Chahal's place might make sense too. Manish should play too, while at it, possibly instead of Mayank or Shreyas

My XI for the dead rubber:

K L Rahul
S Dhawan
V Kohli
S Iyer
S Samson (wk)
M Pandey
R Jadeja
S Thakur
M Shami
J Bhumrah
M Siraj

Anyways Australia are scoring 350+ runs so better to bowl out all 5 bowlers to complete 50 overs.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Now that the series is gone, there is no need to play Shami and Bumrah for the last ODI, better idea would be to give them a breather for the tests. Natarajan/Siraj can be given a go instead.

Also, Kuldeep and Chahal have historically bowler well together in the middle overs, so Kuldeep needs to be brought in as well over Jadeja.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Last few seasons, India's improvement in the limited overs formats have largely been due to the bowling coming good and now that seems to be the problem again.

For tours to England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, we need to acclimatize with the conditions there especially for the bowlers to understand the pitches and weather conditions. We should have at least 2-3 weeks with practice games before the series begins. Now, with the Covid situation, we need to buffer in the time for quarantine as well so 4-5 weeks prior to the series, the team should have reached Australia. But BCCI is extremely greedy and prioritized the IPL over everything else and we're in this situation now.

Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar are options as well in the bowling department.
