I think they should, but on a case-by-case basis! Would love to see the likes of Surya Kumar or Ishan Kishen who are fringe players in foreign leagues but the likes of Hardik Pandya & Jadeja should be preserved & adequately rested since they are far too valuable to the team as they play all formats. Our Senior Team plays cricket all year round so don't see most of them participating in these foreign leagues due to lack of time.

I don't think India has the firepower to beat top T20I side West Indies, England, or Australia.
Agreed. The likes of West Indies & England have the big-hitting prowess & are naturally aggressive players. As seen yesterday, the likes of Dhawan,Virat & Shreyas Iyer are all similar & like to play the anchor role initially & they can't strike big from ball 1.

Re: The Cricket Thread

That one six by Pant of Jofra Archer made my day. Agreed that India had lost the match but that shot was enough to make me forget the loss. Great and big career ahead for Pant. Hope Pant goes past Gilly and Dhoni records.

My XI for today's T20:

R Sharma
KL Rahul
V Kohli
S Iyer
R Pant
H Pandya
A Patel
S Thakur
D Chahar
B Kumar
R Chahar

Would love to see Rohit given the captaincy however that's never going to happen with Kohli in the team.

Re: The Cricket Thread

BTW, who all like this is 1992 WC dark blue jersey currently worn by Indian team? I did not like it back then and don't like it now also. I don't understand the nostalgia. It is not as if we had done superbly back then and are hoping to repeat that. We were knocked out in group stages only.

I wish they don't retain this in the upcoming ICC T20 WC.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So two changes for team India, and nice ones I would say. Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav debuts. Ishan will play as an opener and SKY is slotted to play at number 6. However, I would’ve liked the other way round because of the sheer capability of SKY to score in the first six overs and carry on from there to score big, as we’ve seen in the IPL. Anyway, I hope they both score big.
I have a feeling that Kohli might not come at his usual 3 today. Just a guess though.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Ishan Kishan .. what a debut?
Never looked out of sorts or nervous. Bu not sure what he was trying to do in the last few balls before he got out. Almost looked as if he was trying his level best to get out.

Re: The Cricket Thread

2020 IPL was too good for both Ishan and SKY. Especially the former, his 99 in the IPL chase was great confidence booster. Now we really have a problem of plenty. On a lighter note, Shastri will have to keep a drinking game to decide who plays in the XI. KL Rahul should be continued and not dropped with Rohit Sharma coming into the side. Very difficult to predict the playing XI for the next T20I. Shardul was good with the ball. Probably they can look at R Chahar instead of Yuzi.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Second T20I - Kohli show all the way, full credit to him for the win today. Managed the bowlers and field placement very well to restrict England to below 180.

He encouraged Ishan and Pant to take centre stage while he batted sedately and in the end played some great shots to finish off the game.

Won't be easy to play Ishan, Suryakumar and KL Rahul in the XI, Rahul may miss out playing (again).

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kohli’s shots were clean hits today. He did struggle just a bit to begin with, but then, got into a nice rhythm.

Ishan got his 50 and a great debut. But I wish he hadn’t tried those antics to get out.

My playing XI for 3rd T20I:

R Sharma
I Kishan
V Kohli
R Pant
S Iyer
S Yadav
H Pandya
S Thakur
D Chahar
B Kumar
R Chahar

KL Rahul has been unfortunate. Dhawan may have to sit out for a longer period of time.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a debut by Kishan, certainly an innings which will have an impact while selecting the team for the World T20 in India this year. Hopefully, SKY gets an opportunity to bat in the next games and he gets to showcase his talent. However, I still feel his capabilities will be wasted at number 6. I wish he bats up the order in the next games, may be open with him and give Rahul a rest?

Re: The Cricket Thread

Ishaan's fifty is probably one of the fastest debut fifties in T20 internationals till date. Stellar performance from the youngster!

Yes, I do
In fact that's one of the Indian team had (to me at least).
The other one is the striking Yellow-Blue uniform India was wearing in NZ in 1994. I still remember vividly Sachin & Ajay Jadeja opening for India during that series.
The worst for me is the 1999 World Cup jersey

May be we should have a poll on worst & best jerseys.
