BCCI's press release says - "It is an avowed policy of the Indian government to fight racial discrimination at every level and the India board has been at the forefront to eradicate it from the game of cricket," it read. "For the Indian board anti-racial stance is an article of faith as it is for the entire nation which fought the apartheid policies. The board has always fought the racist sledging of players and spectators and it will continue to do so."

A precursor to indian govt stepping in and asking indian team to come back?

Looks like it.. It seems as per the contract, BCCI doesnt have to pay the $2 mil fine if either there is a security situation or the Govt asks the board to pull back from the tour.

Wondering if the captain and the team would be backing bhajji with the same intensity if they had drawn the test match and the press showering kumble and co for the wonderful dispay???

Yes that is a good question. The poor and blatantly prejudiced umpiring, by Bucknor in particular, caused India's defeat. That is undoubtedly the primary cause of the tensions. By using technology, 99% of the decisions will be correct and for the 1% that still cannot be resolved by technology, there will be no controversy because we can all see the basis for the problem and then understand that this is the best that can be done. Whereas with human umpires, everybody cannot be satisfied and mistakes that make a mockery of the match will keep occurring frequently.

But I read a recent report by some ex-player that he wanted *more* umpires in the elite panel of Test umpires, as the present lot are "over-worked". This ridiculous comment sums up the state of affairs. Ex-cricketers want the umpiring to be done by humans so that they can look for employment and get a share of the pie. It has nothing to do with cricket. And many batsmen oppose the use of technology because they know that Hawk-eye will send them marching on many of the LBW appeals that umpires routinely deny.

It seems Brad Hogg called Kumble a b******.

Also, Kiran More, the Burra Sahib's Hindustani servant, says tour should continue. This is the same man who sacked ganguly on greg chappel's behalf.

Thats abuse which is the Aussie's second language. It is not racism so will not be punished.

Hell, I think the mods should allow profanities on this thread just once. Niranjan Shah was on TV a while ago and all he could say was " I cannot comment on........."

as per all the newschannels
peter roebuck said Ponting should be sacked as captain
M Clark should not be made vice captain as of now
he further said Ponting made professional Aus cricketers into Ugly Dogs
it is the ugliest aus cricket side he has seen.

Bit about Mike Procter:

Sep 2003:
Rashid Latif claimed a false catch () and South African match referee Mike Procter banned Latif for 5 ODIs after a complaint from Bangladesh manager M. A. Latif. (Pak team manager defends banned Latif-Cricket-The Times of India)

Jan 2008:
Ricky Ponting, Michael Clark claim false catches and the same Mike Procter doesn't seem to be bothered by it.

Chetan Chauhan was quoted saying that they had complained to the match refree against Hogg calling Kumble and Dhoni b******s as in India a b******d is someone who is born to an unmarried mother. Now this is utter nonsense and in a way ridicules the team management. They don't know how to get even. The team should either return and beat the Aussies by breaking their spines economically or the team should play and beat the Aussies on the field fair and square. This tactic of complaining about being called b******s is utter crap!

Sidhuism on Bucknor: Paaji was on the news just now and this is what he had to say about Bucknor.
Blind as a bat. Deaf as a light-tower and As insensitive as a toilet seat

Indian govt should report this to australian govt and get this newspaper's a** kicked.

An Email forward I just recieved[sorry for the length]:

Quote:
Subject: New rules written by the ICC with help from the Australian Team

After watching the test match, someone has written some rules have to be incorporated by ICC to give the other teams a perfect clarification

(1) Ricky Ponting - (THE TRULY GENUINE CRICKETER OF THE CRICKET ERA AN WHOSE INTEGRITY SHOULD NOT BE DOUBTED) should be considered as the FOURTH UMPIRE. As per the new rules, FOURTH UMPIRE decision is final and will over ride any decisions taken by any other umpires. ON-FIELD umpires can seek the assistance of RICKY PONTING even if he is not on the field. This rule is to be made, so that every team should understand the importance of the FOURTH UMPIRE.

(2) While AUSTRALIAN TEAM is bowling, If the ball flies anywhere close to the AUSTRALIAN FIELDER(WITHIN 5 metre distance), the batsman is to be considered OUT irrelevant of whether the catch was taken cleanly or grassed. Any decision for further clarification should be from the FOURTH UMPIRE. This is made to ensure that the cricket is played with SPORTIVE SPIRIT by all the teams.

(3) While BATTING, AUSTRALIAN players will wait for the ON-FIELD UMPIRE decisions only (even if the catch goes to the FIFTH SLIP as the ball might not have touched the bat). Each AUSTRALIAN batsman has to be out FOUR TIMES (minimum) before he can return to the pavilion.
In case of THE CRICKETER WITH INTEGRITY, this can be higher.

(4) UMPIRES should consider a huge bonus if an AUSTRALIAN player scores a century. Any wrong decisions can be ignored as they will be paid huge bonus and will receive the backing of the AUSTRALIAN team and board.

(5) All AUSTRALIAN players are eligible to keep commenting about all players on the field and the OPPONENT TEAM should never comment as they will be spoiling the spirit of the AUSTRALIAN team. Any comments made in any other language are to be considered as RACISM only.

(6) MATCH REFEREE decisions will be taken purely on the AUSTRALIAN TEAM advice only. Player views from the other teams decisions will not be considered for hearing. MATCH REFEREES are to be given huge bonus if this rule is implemented.

(7) NO VISITING TEAM should plan to win in AUSTRALIA. This is to ensure that the sportive spirit of CRICKET is maintained.

(8) THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE: If any bowler gets RICKY PONTING - "THE UNDISPUTED CRICKETER WITH INTEGTIRY IN THE GAME OF CRICKET" more than twice in a series, he will be banned for the REST OF THE SERIES.
This is to ensure that the best batsman/Captain will be played to break records and create history in the game of CRICKET.

These rules will clarify to the all the teams VISITING AUSTRALIA.

Thats what those convicts call their dads (as well as their own children), so it should be considered a term of endearment and Kumble should consider himself fortunate enough to be so called.
