Enjoy some of the great expressways in India

Hi
Got some pics of good expressways in India thro mail.Hav a look at them.

Request To Moderators-Please move this Thread to the appropriate place if "Shifting Gears" isn't the correct link.

This is the Ahmedabad - Baroda expressway...

This is the NH4 - Bangalore Pune highway.
Section between Kolhapur and Belgaum...

Hebbal interchange at Bangalore.

Here are some on the Delhi Noida Expressway (DNE).

The Mumbai Pune expressway

1. This is a snap of the MPE from one of the over bridges. MPE runs from the outskirts of Pune to Panvel which is about 50 kms from Mumbai. It is a six lanes road all throughout, including the ghat section.

2. Another view. The road has a fence running along the lenght on both sides to prevent stray animals venturing on the expressway.

3. This is an approach to one of the tunnels on the expressway. One of the tunnels on this route is almost 1.2 Kms long.

4. Again, an approach to a tunel. Check the sign boards on the road. The MPE has a dedicated mobile emergency line displayed all over the road. It also has emergency phone booths along the road to call for assistance.

5. This is a section between Lonavala and Khandala. Since the road passes thru these towns, they have built an elevated section that pases over these towns. There are exits for both towns.

6. One of the tunnels. All tunnels are well illuminated and the longer tunnels have large exhaust fans.

7. This is a breathtaking view of the MPE against the backdrop of the Khandala ghat. You can see a large waterfall in the bakground as the MPE snakes its way towards Pune.

Out of all these, the 25km stretch of the Greater Noida expressway takes the cake. Except for peak hours, you may not see another vehicle for miles around. Early mornings you can cover the entire 25kms without seeing more than 5 vehicles. But the downside is no policing, and risk of animals.

hey tsk..
I think the noida expressway is only a stretch of 5kms with a toll of Rs.17
Its become risky nowadays with many fools drivin at 40kmph and all in different lanes..so it needs high speed manouvering.

Toll what toll? I think you are confusing DND flyway with Greater Noida Expressway. Noida Toll bridge is no expressway. G.N. Expressway is 25kms with no toll and hardly any traffic

now aint that a good place to drag race.....i mean u can test new cars and ur modifications you have made.....it sounds far fetched but when there is no traffic it will be like the scene in 2fast2furious when they need to go to the ferrari, the stunts and all but without the accidents of course......

Hey tsk,

howz the progress of the 4 lane Gurgaon -Jaipur highway? Is it done? It was under construction some 1.5 years back when I relocated from Noida and it really looked big by its initial looks...

You driven on it?

these beautiful roads are Build Operate and Transfer ( B O T ) basis .. the investment is done by Private parties and they get the revenue through the TOll collected ..
internal roads are under control of Respective city Municipal Corporations .. so there is not much chance to collect toll in cities ..
people will not appreciate the idea and the MC's cannot afford the kind of money required to make these kind of roads

Thanx Sridhar.

Hey ArmourofGod...The Interior roads(Only in AP) off NH5 towards Tada Falls were also very well maintained..they were simple 2 lane roads with no medians but with cat-eye reflectors, clear road markings, sign boards and all.
Unfortunately the same can't be said about the interior roads elsewhere..like in Tamil Nadu..but things are improving.

Untill you cross gurgaon its a nightmare. After you are out of NCR the highway is a breeze with only some sections having heavy truck traffic esp at night.
