Getting a few calls from Bombay/Amdavad numbers saying the person is my financial advisor from xx bank. One point is the timing of these calls when they started - sunday evening. Not that I take up these offers

I’ve been receiving messages from Hyundai with tips on how to maintain your car.
Here’s an example:


The thing is, I don’t own any Hyundai car. The only time I gave them my number to them was when I requested a test drive some months ago.

Could this be a fake SMS?

Or is Hyundai scraping around for any phone number they can find for marketing purposes?

This is NOT ICICI Bank's twitter id. I did not observe the language or the handle, and tried to reach this account. Some one called back. THe language was not the typical customer care person's language (even if not very polished). When I refused to give my PAN number, he shouted, used the MC word, and quickly disconnected the call.

This happened to me as well, have been receiving these messages from hyundai and just like you we dont have a hyundai car but had given my number during showroom visit.

The companies will do anything to grab eyeballs it seems. If this is genuinely from hyundai and not a hoax than this is terribly low level cheap marketing by such a big MNC.

There has been exponential rise in scam calls in Bombay, we have been receiving many calls for so called personal loans from numbers registered in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, etc. I have blocked 3-4 such numbers in the last 2 weeks. Surprisingly these are recorded calls and not an actual person calling and the message straight away sounds "Press 1 for personal loan" without even mentioning the name of the bank/organization they are calling from.

It seems sutomation has crept in in fake calls as well

I’m tired of getting these spam calls. The representatives from Bajaj finance call me more than my friends and family combined. Now there are these robo calls where it’s not even a human being calling. I have no idea how to get rid of them. I don’t mind one or two calls just trying to promote whatever (I mean other people have to earn a wage too) but this is now getting out of hand.

Wasn’t there a google service launched which filtered some calls? I’m hoping that becomes mainstream soon enough.

Yes, now very service provider from broadband to banks have jumped on this bandwagon. I tried enabling the "filter spam calls" on my android phone. Unfortunately, it resulted in amazon delivery guys not being able to reach me :-( , since these numbers are also identified as spam.
Post that experience, I now answer calls from unknown numbers only if i have a delivery scheduled, else simply ignore them.

The google service is still there, you have to install Phone app by google on android and set it as default dialer. Many phones are having their own version of phone app which doesn't have the google caller id. Even with in the same brand, different models are having different phone apps as default. My wife's OnePlus was identifying spam while mine was not. After some research I found my phone has OnePlus Phone app and wife's has google. The icons are also very similar so you have to look for the app developer to identify the correct one.

This filter is not 100% effective, it identifies around 80% spam. As mentioned on whitewing's post delivery services are identified as spam for some reason, so you need to pick calls if you are expecting deliveries. I always provide feedback on the calls hoping the service will get better.

Seems like referring to a local IP. Maybe a profile already present on the device or local network, is this a work phone?

Profiles are used on iOS to bundle configs, and often used by carriers to configure the apn settings or organizations to control things like allowed apps, passcode length, vpn etc. Before installation, it should show you what are the configs it will add/update.

Not my work phone, but personal. I dont use 10.x subnet on my home network.

The grammar in the first line looks a bit suspicious, too.
