Well,I guess lack of traffic sense is the most common here.We can not judge when the vehicle infront is gonna feel like taking left or right. The most notorious bieng autos,They can do anything what you can't imagine.

I guess being sensible and alert help most of the times, but to an extent!

Here's a list of Aggressive Driving examples from Mahindra Bolero website. Very true.

Speeding
Running red lights and stop signs
Tailgating
Passing on the shoulder of the road
Cutting off another vehicle
Slamming on brakes in front of a tailgater
Improper hand or facial gestures at other drivers
Yelling
Repeatedly honking the horn
Repeatedly flashing of headlights

Agreed that these are the common reasons that you meet with an accident..but Fate comes first in the list..if you have to meet with an accident it does not matter how you meet it...Drive safe..

p.s liked your extra ciricular activities option..

In general, these are the people who dont know the meaning of 'Road Etiquettes'. If all these above people are not there in the streets 75% of the accidents can be avoided.
even they know the meaning they wont follow. thats the problem.these accounts for almost 75% of accidents taking place in city roads. and mostly trucks are involved in highway accidents.
but in chennai, along with the above, other posing major threat to road users are
call centre and ITcompany vehicles.
college buses, (mahindra) school vans
tipper sand lorries and water tankers
rash driving by the drivers of the abovesaid vehicles can be easily controlled if the traffic police enforce the laws with iron fist.
@sumeet
One of the reasons is not following road rules and manners.
eg driving in a zig zag manner, overtalking from the left, rushing into a
cross road section without atleast slowing down forget stopping,
thinking there is no vehicle beside or behind you ie changing lanes without
looking at the mirrors etc.

reason for other accidents caused by common people (including 2 wheelers, pedestrians)- i agree with sumeet.
