I remember driving my old Amby after a long stint with the Zen and Contessa. Hunted for the non-existant fifth gear.

happens a lot with me if I drive a car with 4 forward gears. Keep searching for the non-existent 5th gear.

Otherwise I normally drive with one hand on the gear lever so have had no issues. the only problem is, when I let my mind wander off, I forget to depress the clutch all the way in and end up getting the screechiig noise from my gear box. Fortunately there were not many times I did this.

Sometimes I am going in 5th gear, but I forget and thinking I am in 4th my hand goes to the gear knob!

Doesn't happen to me..

Gear knob position, Tacho and Speedo reading and Engine Noise/Vibration keeps on reminding me which gear I am into.

Cheers,

well, it doesn't happen with me. you can judge in which gear you are running your car by looking at RPM and Speedo meter.

It happens only when i'm driving in a crawling traffic where i'm continously changing 2nd to 3rd and vice versa
It doesn't happen often as i always have my hand on the stick.....

Never had a problem with my Swift. A look at the Tacho and the Speedo will tell me which gear I'm in. But it happens with my bike. Even after I engage fifth, I end up trying to shift to a non-existent sixth gear.

For me it's always look at the tacho, engine noise(if any) and throttle response.

Since i shift the gears in a fast one click motion, earler i used to have the the habit of looking at the tacho after changing from the 4th gear to the fifth just to see that i did not engage the 3rd by mistake.

As you get more used to the car you can tell your gear by the way the car accelerates, the tacho reading etc..

me also :-

Well, it happen to me initial two months. I was new driver and i have to look at my gear everytime to findout which gear it is. Now, i can sense it by engine noise & speed as i always follow the recommended speed for each gear so, if i am above 50 that means i m in 5th gear. Also tacho is always near to 2000 rpm :-). Practics make perfect
