Currently reading "The Prey" written by Micheal Crichton.

Other recent ones were mostly by Dan Brown - Angels & Demons (somehow liked it better than the Da vinci code), Digital Fortress.

Best one so far (if i can remember) is "Papillon" by Henry Charriere. Recommended for a thrilling read. This is an awesome true life autobiography by a person wrongly commited for murder.... and his true tales of escape... i admire his determination...

Discovered this thread recently. I love reading books so its gonna be hard for me to list my top 5.

Recently, I finished reading

- Amulet of Samarkhand
- Golems' eye
- Ptolemy's Gate

Considering the fact that these books are found in teenage section of Landmark (in bangalore), I guess I discovered them rather late. Enjoyed them nevertheless.

Got my hands on "Speaker of the Dead" by Orson Scott Card. Finished reading it last weekend. I have been looking for it for quite some time after I read "Enders Game". Amazing Books if you like Sci Fi.

Fantasy. Check out jim-butcher.com. Good discussion forum.

Though the Dresden files is the more popular series with white night hitting NYT bestseller list, I found that codex Alera series is more engaging.

Currently reading Hari Kunzru's Impressionist. Looked this up because I liked his writing in The Transmission. His writing is very visual and outstanding, though the same cannot be said about the plots. I read his books for the visual impact of some the lines -- like the stomach churning bass kicks from a good sub :-)

My wife is a writer, so our home library has most of the 'serious' must reads, but being a bad reader (I visualize too much, according to her -- but hey that's what I do for a living), I take a huge amount of time to finish a book. So I prefer short stories.

I really like short stories of Roal Dahl, Philip Dick, Forsyth and Stephen King. They have been made into some amazing movies. One of my all time favorite movie as well (since you mentioned Papillon) is made from King's story titled "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption". I also would easily recommend the short read from Forsyth called "The Sheperd". Watch out for the impact!
