We all know that only Rupay credit cards have so far been enabled to make UPI payments. So I was intrigued to find this 7-month-old ICICI Bank Blog - "How to Make UPI Payments Using Credit Cards": https://www.icicibank.com/blogs/cred...h-credit-cards

It details "Advantages of UPI payments using a Credit Card" and gives a step by step method how to go about it too.

Excerpts:

Quote:
Simply add your Credit Card to an UPI app and experience convenience at your fingertips. ... With RBI and the Government trying to make digital payments easier and swifter than ever before, UPI Payment through Credit Cards is a significant step in that direction.

...

Check whether your chosen UPI app allows payments using a Credit Card. ICICI Bank allows you to add any bank’s Credit Card on the iMobile Pay app .... The process of adding a Credit Card to the app is the same as adding a Debit Card – given the Credit Card operates on either the MasterCard or VISA payment gateway. ...
.
Since you have other Cards already added to the UPI app, you will have to pick a Card each time you use the app to pay. You can choose the option of Credit Card Payments henceforth. ...

Note how only MasterCard and VISA are mentioned, and not Rupay! So what is actually going on here?! I don't use iMobile, so couldn't test it out myself.

Still keeping on the topic of how seriously helpful ICICI Bank really is ...

In their monthly statements, they partially mask the Credit Card number like any other bank (presumably for security reasons). But you must have also noticed that how they helpfully provide a QR code too for making easy UPI payments? Scan it, and there it is on your screen, the complete unmasked Credit Card number in all its glory! Nifty, eh?
.

I believe HDFC does give Rupay credit cards by my HDFC-RM says it is not yet available. Would appreciate any feedback.
Yes, I have been using Axis Bank IndianOil RuPay Credit card for UPI. It works smoothly for merchant transactions.
Tried on BHIM, phonePe, PayTM. On BHIM, not always works, but works fine on phonePe.
i hadn't applied specifically for RuPay card, but IndianOil card from Axis, to my suprise, received RuPay card, and I'm loving its utility in UPI.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Not UPI payments, but Google Pay does allow (non Rupay) cards to be added.
I have added Axis Magnus and tried a bill payment which went through.

It seems QR code in stores provided by GPay will be eligible for payments through this combination but I have not tried it yet.

You can easily get the HDFC Neu credit card which is on the rupay platform.
You need to apply for it throught the Neu App - it is currently even being offered as lifetime free (if you see first year free on the app, wait for sometime or watch some YouTube videos to get the ltf offer).

I have the Neu plus card and I use it to make upi payments through Paytm/bhim app.

It also has some good offers if you buy things through Neu app like upto 10% cashback etc.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

I received the Axi IndianOil Rupay card today. But I don't see an option in Gpay to add a Rupay credit card. Under payment methods, all I see is the bank account option. What am I missing?

As of now Gpay allows only Visa credit cards of select banks

Phone PE allows all credit cards Visa/MasterCard/Amex/Diners. One can not pay by QR code scanning unless merchant has configured his QR code to receive payment through credit card. But one can pay through credit card via phone PE both online and offline. Merchant has to send the request for money through phone PE. It can be paid through card. This feature is handy some times ( during covid lockdown i have used it extensively to order medicines)

Apparently, Google Pay on IOS doesn't support adding RuPay cards, and they seem to be working on it. This is what I was told when I contacted GooglePay support.

So I guess ill be using PhonePe until GPay enables Rupay credit cards on IOS.

Use BHIM app to link your RuPay Cr card.
You can use it at any merchant QR code, just scan and make payment via Cr card.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Hello.
A query.
If I use Bhim or Phonepe or any other payment app, and pay at an Indian Oil fuel station, with the payment source as Axis Bank Indian oil Rupay credit card, do I still get accelerated Edge points as are applicable if the card is swiped at a PoS machine?

Re: The Credit Card Thread

I have HDFC regalia and priority pass. I'd be visiting Bali with a layover in Singapore with my wife. I'm confused with the lounge access and the hdfc website or priority pass. If there's someone who could shed some light, what would be the best use of the cc-priority pass privilege for us to get access to lounge with food for free(I think the card mentioned some $1 swipe for 3 hours access) or minimal fee? would it be available for both me and wife or just me since the card is on my name.

You would not be charged anything on your Priority Pass in an International Lounge. Even if some charge is applied that will be reversed. But on your Priority Pass, only your visit will be complimentary.

If your spouse doesn't have one, then she will be charged. Some cards do offer certain number of complimentary visits for guests on Priority Pass but I don't think Regalia gives that.

Other option, which really depends on your luck, is if they swipe your Priority Pass twice. This will make both your visits against your card but this is rare.

Domestic airports - swipe your regalia.
International airports - swipe your priority pass.

Typically lounges allow entry upto 3 hours prior to your flight time so plan accordingly.

If you have enough time before your trip, you could consider getting an add-on card for your wife and that way she also will get a separate priority pass. Otherwise using your priority pass, your access will be free and for your wife’s access you will be charged $27.

Seems like the best approach. It seems like HDFC doesn't allow applying for add-in card without a different active account from netbanking. Need to visit the branch. I have given a call to my RM. Let's see what he has to say for getting it without visiting the branch if possible.

Also, there's a criteria of 4 transactions on the card before applying priority pass them the timeline for getting priority pass (HDFC cc doesn't grant priority pass digital access) would mean it has to be done as soon as ppossible
Thank you for the suggestion

AFAIK, HDFC Regalia is little different form other HDFC cards with respect to Lounge access. Other cards have lounge access/quarter, where as for regalia it is per year.

Priority Pass

You can apply for Priority Pass for self and add on members once you complete minimum 4 retail transactions on your HDFC Bank Regalia Credit Card.
Using Priority Pass, you and your add on member can together avail up to 6 Complimentary Lounge Access per calendar year, outside India.
If you exceed the 6 Complimentary visits, you will be charged at US $27 + GST per visit
