Re: The Credit Card Thread

I just got myself a priority pass card along with my credit card. Wanted to know if i need to activate it or just present the card at the lounge?

And pardon my ignorance but PP is for international lounges?

No need of any activation, you can present the card at the lounges at domestic and international ones provided the PP is eligible.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Hey everyone, I hope you're all well. So, for the past few months I've been contemplating on getting a credit card for myself, however, for one reason or the other I haven't gone forward. First and foremost is whether I actually need one!! Being a prudent buyer I usually don't go off my limits when spending money and loans have always been a grey area for me. Even for my next purchase i.e. Innova Hycross, I finalised the car only after ensuring that I had the funds and won't have to opt for a loan.
Now I just wanted advice what are the benefits of using a credit card except from the basic one i.e. you get time for payment and make purchases immediately
Thoughts will be helpful

Don’t use PP at Domestic lounges unless the card provider specifically states that it can be used in Domestic lounges free of cost. Better to use it only in International lounges. Base card for which PP is given invariably will have Domestic lounge access.

I have used PP in Domestic lounges only to pay heavy price in my card bill after 2 months (close to 2k charged per person)

Better have a premium card with lounge benefits and get add on card for family members.

I have Axis Magnus card which gives unlimited Domestic lounge access and also provides PP.

The main reason people pay high fees for premium cards is they don't want any hassles. They don't want to keep thinking which cards to use for what benefit. If you can get a premium card which gives decent reward points and benefits on just swiping and using many will take it over 4-5 different cards (one for each specific benefit) and the added hassle of transferring point from here to there, using Amazon Pay vouchers etc to get maximum points. Even if the rewards of the single premium card is 1-2 % lower than the 4-5 card combination.
Aurum needs to understand this. So far only HDFC (Infinia) and Amex (Platinum Charge) seem to have understood this.

Step 1: Read this thread from page 1. I have done it and I have learned so much. 99% of your questions (even those you plan to ask in future) are answered in this thread. I have 4 cards and I was using one for 90% of my purchases. Every time points were expiring I would pick ups something from the online store. Now I know how much I have lost by not educating myself.

Step 2: Get a basic card like SBI Cashback or some RuPay card.
Step 3: Use it like a debit card. Forget the idea that Credit card is a loan. Spend based on your bank balance like you have been doing with your debit card. Use the credit card app to set limits and track your spends.

Go to Step 1.

Lastly if you still have any doubts, there are many experts (I'm not one of them) who can help you.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Has anyone used the ICICI Emeralde and HDFC Infinia/Regalia?

I currently have the ICICI Emeralde and HDFC Regalia, and use the ICICI Emeralde card a lot for transactions such as insurance payments etc. The biggest gripe is in such kind of utility payments, ICICI only offers 1 reward point (instead of 4 reward points) for every INR 100 spent. Does HDFC Infinia/Regalia have similar restrictions (unable to spot this online)

Re: The Credit Card Thread

So here`s my recent experience (Last week) using all my cards to get 10 lounge access across 2 domestic and 1 internation airport in 7 days. Also, found a hack which saved me money.

So i bought myself a Sapphiro Forex card which costed me 3500. This gives you 2 international & 1 domestic lounge access along with a uber voucher of 1000. (Totally worth it, you will know soon)

Since me and my wife were travelling Mumbai - Chennai - Singapore - Chennai - Mumbai, we needed to access 10 (5 x 2 people) lounges.

So Had following:
12 access on HDFC Business Regalia( Domestic)
2 access on ICICI Coral (Domestic)
1 access on Sapphiro Forex (Domestic)
2 access on Sapphiro Forex (International)

Domestic
Now, the person at the lounge counter will allow only 1 swipe of each card at a time (Beacause of the rush these days and also they will come up with such antics to reduce crowd). So, you get multiple access one a single card, add them to dreamfolks and preselect the lounge and show multiple QR codes at the counter. That way they cannot deny entry since the lounge has already deducted Rs.2 from your card.

I used by HDFC Business Regalia 6 times multiple times at once. This card when swiped at the machine was showing benefits not availlable. But when done through dreamfolks, it quickly generated the access.

International

We Landed at Singapore Changi International Airport and head straight for the lounge. There i again showed them the QR code and i though they would ask for 2 codes for 2 people. But they allowed both of us on 1 code. And i am pretty sure that was a mistake on thier part. This access gave us meals, dedicated shower, kids meal and the works.

We repeated this again on our way back as well on only 1 QR code.

Changi lounge cost is 50 SGD per person. Thats`s 6500 INR for 2 people. And i simply saved 13500 bucks.

So Total benefits from cards:

6 domestic lounge - 12,000
2 international lounge - 13500
Uber voucher - 1000

Invested - 3500

Net Benefits - 12000 + 13500 + 1000 - 3500 = 23,000 /-

Combined spends will not be considered, you would need to have the 9L+ spends on the specific card which is going to be upgraded.

Earlier this year, I had got an upgrade from DCB to Infinia the same way ie based on existing limit and spends. Although at the time the spend criteria was lesser 7.5L or so.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Some of my points in HDFC Millennia are expiring this month. And I want to join a frequent flyer program. HDFC is showing Intermiles and Krisflyer as option (for every 100 RP I will get 333 miles). I have about 7200 RPs in this card. And I have one BizBlack card (in my father's name) which currently have 16000+ RPs accrued in about 1 month. I want to accumulate these RPs for a foreign trip(s) for myself or my father and uncle in future. I don't know how to start? Also I want to know if I opt for a FFP, is it mandatory for me to present on trip? Or I can book for my father, uncle, cousins too (without me going)?

HDFC Infinia offers regular reward points for insurance as well utility bill payments. However, it has monthly caps. I remember 5000 reward points max per calender month for Insurance payments and guess around same for utility payments.

Thanks! But then the 5000 Reward Points cap in HDFC can be converted to INR 5000 using the 1:1. Strangely in ICICI, though there is no cap but the 1 RP for every INR 100 spent in Insurance and then 0.25:1 Cash conversion ratio, HDFC might still work out better.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

I intend to travel by flight last week of the month. I have got the Axis Select credit card and also the Priority Pass that gets issued with it. I had stopped using lounges for many years seeing the huge line always. With the new credit card guidelines in place, I am sure we will be back to some decent numbers.

Can we use Priority Pass at Mumbai lounge while travelling Domestic?? Also, anyone know of any specific lounges where Axis select credit card are accepted for free, thanks.
