Nehra can be good on his day, but he is inconsistent.
Also it's quite clear that Dhoni doesn't like Sreesanth, who would have been the only alternative. All others like Ishanth, Vinay are simply not up to the mark.

While I agree about bangladesh being capable of beating a top side at home, I think it is beyond Bangla to even dream of beating this Indian side(it is hugely different from what dravid led in the last world cup and i don't mean the players) in this world cup. Yeah, that is called arrogance. When you have it, why shouldn't you flaunt it.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

While we lament about lack of fast (or medium pace options) for India, the only one bowler who I have seen bowling well over 140 kmph consistently (whenever I have seen him bowl) is not in the squad and nor was he given a chance on fast bowler friendly wickets - Umesh Yadav.

He should have been tried out in SA, I feel.

More than leaking runs - what I am worried about is the fragile fitness levels of Zaheer, Munaf and Nehra. Piyush can hardly turn a ball on our wickets (ya ya I remember him deceiving Sachin with a googly in the challengers). Pravin Kumar is also coming back from an injury and Bhajji is not a wicket taking bowler any more.

So we have to rely on our batsmen only.

Yeah, to take wickets. That has been the trend, throw the ball to yuvraj, raina or sharma and you get a wicket almost instantly.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

I strongly feel Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Virat Kohli, are the guys who will make the difference this time in WC.

IMO they could have selected one from Piyush Chawla and Ashwin and given a chance to Rohit Sharma.

That is generally everyone's opinion. But as we all know, politics always rears its head in these things. How else can you justify including a player who has not been in the team for more than 2 years !!!

Agreed with first line and not the last.
Rohit sharma has not given one good innings. On what bassis he should be selected?
IMO instead of chawla, parthiv patel should have been selected as back up for dhoni.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

@ Harry - Could be that Dhoni doesn't want Parthiv ? Parthiv has been consistent since the IPL and has performed everytime he has been asked to.

Also in the SA ODI's there were reports that Dhoni was struggling with injury to his shins - but even with Parthiv in the team he did not give up the wicket-keeping, a bit strange I thought.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

Then who would keep the wickets in case Dhoni is not playing. We dont have Rahul Dravid any longer who used to manage behind the wickets.

With the IPL payout being higher that the regular matches, I guess Rohit Sharma will be happy not playing for the Indian side. Anyways the umpteem no of chances given to him have gone down the drain.

Last 20 innings he played, he scored two 100's and a 50. Where as Suresh Raina scored just one 50. I'm not saying that Raina should have been dropped, but Rohit Sharma should have been selected.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

Didn't understand why only useless matches are scheduled in Bengaluru?

Anyway, hope India does better. They will be depending too much on batting alone. But then adjusting to Indian batting conditions shouldn't take much time for others other than spinners bothering them which is in short supply.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

I hope India lifts the cup. Maybe it is Sachin's last WC, boy it will be an cherry on the cake for his career. The side is good, not bad at all. Bowling may be a little worry but Subcontinental wickets are known for its amazing run making capability and not known to be bowling wickets. I think we should put our heads together and make the best of the home conditions and lift the cup. Pawar should look into this and help shift focus of the public from all the corruption scandals
