Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

There is still around 25 odd days for the India team to gear up for the world cup. India should take the definitive advantage of being on home ground and dont allow the world cup to slip from their hands.
My pick for the q-finals.

Group A: Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka
Group B: England, India, S Africa and Windies.

The advantage is not definitive, at least in world cups. No home team has won it yet.

Well. Sri Lanka co-hosted the 1996 world cup and won it, though the finals were played in Lahore (that must have relieved the home-nation-curse from them!).

It is the only home nation to win the cricket world cup.

We do have a good team but the pressure is going to be Immense! It depends on the team how they handle it. I personally feel that our ODI team is a bit over-rated!

All the best to all the teams. May the best team lift the cup.

I am betting on at least one game getting canceled due to either security reasons or crowd trouble.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

India is in the tougher group. Bangladesh is the strongest of the weaker sides of the tournament, and can definitely cause an upset or two.

Ask Rahul Dravid

Even South Africa and England are in nick touch these days and for many teams playing in other country hardly matters. Key is dominance from day 1. Once dominance is done at group level it boost confidence of team manyfold. Keeping fingers crossed and hope to watch as many as matches if office permits .

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

Group A is pretty straight forward, unless NZ manage to lose to Kenya, Canada and Zimbabwe.

Group A:
Australia
Sri Lanka
Pakistan
New Zealand

In Group B, I expect Bangladesh to edge out Windies.
Group B:
India
South Africa
England
Bangladesh

And this is how i want the semi final lineup to be
IND - PAK
ENG - AUS

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

@Eddy- Why dont we add a poll here stating a prediction who can lift the cup this time?

Copying my comments from the other thread-
Now what needs to be done-
Sachin and viru opening.
Gambhir at no.3
Kohli at no.4(he deserves to be in team on current form)
yuvi at No.5(not firing with bat but with ball atleast)
Pathan at No.6- and he can be sent at no.3 or 4 also as per situation demands.
Dhoni at no.7- he should not come at no.4 like he did yesterday as he doesnt have the technique earlier on. He should just act as the finisher.
Bhajji no.8
zaheer no.9
nehra at 10
munaf at 11,

This should be the ideal starting 11 with praveen been switched with nehra or munaf at times.

Ideally i would like to see SehwAg and Gambhir open however noone can tell the master to go one down when he loves the open slot!
IMO if Sachin is at no.3 with yuvi, kohli, pathan and dhoni to follow thats the best middle order you can get anytime!

My Q final lineup-
Group A:

Australia
New Zealand
Pakistan
Sri Lanka

Group B-

England
India
South Africa
West Indies

Had put west indies instead of bangladesh as i feel west indies has the x factor in the name of pollard and can definitely rech the quarters atleast.

Semifinalists-
Srillanka,India,South Africa,Australia.

Reasoning-
Srilanka- In subcontinent they are the most dangerous team ahead of india and paki.
India- In home conditions they have the most dangerous batting power to take them to the semis.
SA- Had selected them instead of England as SA current players can handle spin better and have experience and youth for the semis.
Australia- Even if they had slipped off late history says when its world cup dont take aussies lightly. They might surprise everyone this time too!

Why this pessimism ?

He is not there anymore and the Indian team has had a serious overdue overhaul. I do not think that these new generation Indians will feel what Dravid felt that day in W.I. Tamim Iqbal, come on baby.

Re: The Cricket World Cup 2011 thread

MY choice of line up for the India squad would rea something like this:
Gambhir and Sehwag to open the batting (the usual right-left combination), Sachin, Virat, Pathan, Dhoni, Yuvraj, Bhajji, Nehra, Zaheer & Munaf.

Not to open the bowling with Zaheer, either do it with Munaf or Nehra. All Zaheer does is stare and give runs. Once he starts getting flogged, he continues getting it. Suprisingly there is no medium pacer in the team someone like a Ganguly or Steve Waugh.

Also the spinners if included cannot bat. Hence should be the tail enders.

Medium pacers can't do much in Indian conditions. They are useful only if there is swing, like in overcast English conditions.

While I agree about the Indian teams overhaul, but I believe Bdesh are still capable of beating a top side at home. Sakib al hasan is the major threat.

@ Harry: Was waiting for the Aus-Eng series and the warm up games to get over before adding the poll.

QFinals line-up
Group A:

Australia
New Zealand
Pakistan
Sri Lanka

Group B-

England
India
South Africa
West Indies

Here is my playing 11 team:
Viru, Gauti, Sachin, Virat, Yuvraj, Pathan, Dhoni, Bhaji, Ashwin or Piyush, Zak and Munaf or Praveen.

Having piyush or ashwin will add to the variety in bowling and also piyush can bat better that the pacers in the team.

I dont like the idea of Nehra inclusion. Off late he is not in form, lacks pace and movement. Not sure how he got into the squad.
