This is a great loss to the Nation. May his soul rest in peace !

Here is an interesting article on Bhimsen Joshi.
"Apart from music, he had another passion -- fast cars."

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi's death is a sad loss to all who loved his brand of classicals and to the nation as a whole.
In one of his photo-featured interviews, he was photographed with the open bonnet of his fin-tailed, steel grey 1960's Mercedes Benz. Apart from driving, he loved DIY jobs. He told the reporter that classical music and voice modulation are very much like fine tuning a car's carburettor. It must be perfect and in sync with the engine rpm.Only then can you have smooth drives.

Pt.Bhimsen Joshi performing live was always a treat to watch. Most of the time his performance in a concert use to start in the early mornings i.e after 2.0am and you should see the hall getting energised with his voice.

May his soul rest in peace.

Re: Rest In Peace - Bharat Ratna Pt.Bhimsen Joshi

From my childhood days I have been brought up admiring, listening to Panditji's Marathi Abhangwani Part-1 and Part-2. After marriage had gone to US and made sure I carried those cassettes along.

All Abhaga's that he sung were and will remain a big big hit in MH and amongst Marathis. Just to remember a few,

Majhe Maher Pandhari (one of the post popular)
Aata Kothe Dhave Man
Kaya Hi Pandhari Aatma Ha Vitthala
Pandhari Nivasa Sakhya panduranga
...
...

Panditji, We will always miss you. But you will be present among us by virtue of your voice left behind.

May god give peace to your Soul!

Thanks a lot Karl for the link. The colour is cream and not steel grey as I remembered.I am sure this should be the original paint of the fin tailed Merc.
May the great maestro's soul rest in peace.

Re: Rest In Peace - Bharat Ratna Pt.Bhimsen Joshi

I came across this very rare video shared by musician Jayateerth Mevundi.

A meet with Pundit Bhimsen Joshi that was conducted in 3 different languages.

Pandit Jayateerth Mevundi is from Joshiji's home district, and home Gharana, is speaking in Dharwad dialect Kannada. Vidushi Kaushiki Chakraborty is speaking in Hindi. Some others are speaking in Marathi I think.

I had met Pt. Bhimsen Joshi in his residence twice when he was in slightly better health than this. Normally if you see him in concerts, he would hardly talk and came across as as extremely reserved person. I had lost couple of opportunities to interact with him earlier because of this perception (and me being an introvert kind of person). But when we met him in his house, I was surprised by his humility and how 'down to earth' he was. Even with the short conversation we had, I could make out how informed he was about things happening around (Ex: he remarked how a certain renowned IT company doesn't really pay well ). I showed him the sketches I made (portrait of Bhimsen himself) and he showed curiosity about the technique used.
We had taken photographs and even made a video recording of our conversation but unfortunately I lost them.
