Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

I voted for NO.

Reason are :

1) Why only sms ? When was the last time a rule was made about broadband that service has to be this good, that good with high speed, etc. ? This is a decision made by people who are having too much time and free money. There are many rules required for internet and that is where the action is supposed to be, not in sms.

2) If somebody has an sms package, then its very nice to save money. I know this helps a lot. Sometimes to the tune of Rs. 200-250/- per month or even higher. SMS is not always for jokes and satire messages.

I understand that the bulk messages are problem. Sometime ago I appeared for MAT and I am still getting messages. For around 8-10 months I got more than 25 messages on an average about colleges, many of them repeat.

Who says that marketing messages can be wiped off, there is internet through which all things will be done.

I fail to understand what is reason for such a limitation.

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

I hardly send 25 sms a year, so I frankly don't care. But why cap it at 100, any more than capping your calls at 100 a day? I think this is a stunt pulled at the instigation of service providers, who may be losing revenue because youngsters use sms a lot instead of voice calls.

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

Buy dual SIM phone and get 200 SMS per day. .

Also if TRAI capped 100 SMS per day then some time of students will be saved and they can devote their time in study then SMSing whole day.

In our college time in 90s we lived without messaging a single SMS a day. Today college guys got 100 SMS (more than enough).

So what?
During my college days (fag end of 70's) there was not even a land line at home, forget mobiles. But today my 10 year old son can't sleep if his mobile is not nearby! Even I feel handicapped if I forget to take my mobile while going out. As soon as you get used to a facility, it becomes essential in your mind!

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

Doesn't matter to me, I don't text that much. But I wonder what TRAI is going to achieve. There should be a bunch of those "earn with a computer, work from home" setups who have those software to send pesky marketing SMS - and all they have to do if buy as many SIM cards as required to meet their daily targets. Wonder whose brainchild is this idea!

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

Sad thing is, some people support this argument, just because they dont use sms facility as much! Would you be happy if government decides one day, that all cars need only 5Ls of petrol per day? I know majority of the public wont mind, but we team-bhp'ians will be cribbing no end!

This rule is hardly going to hit telemarketeers, and going to hit the college/ young crowd pretty bad.

I do use sms a lot. Because, i get free time in office, internet is blocked and i wont be able to take many calls, just because of the absolute lack of privacy! Sms is the best way to keep in touch with friends. I often do exceed the 100sms limit too, chatting with friends. And, i dont have free sms!

Will this rule make a difference? It will increase my expense, make it inconvenient and i may need to try dual-sim, but I dont think I'll be reducing my usage by much!

Just because someone doesnt use sms facility, doesnt mean sms is used only by telemarketeers/ free sms college crowd sending sardarji/ tintumon jokes daily!

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

100 SMS per day limit is silly.

Used to do upward of 200 per day with friends/girlfriend(s) not so long ago.
The younger crowd will be hit hard.

Not very nice.

I hardly uses SMS, so i dont care much. This move is to basically block telemarketers and junk SMS’s. Youngsters are good at texting so they will feel let down.

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

There is no need to cap the usage. They can probably charge higher post one crosses 100 SMS per day... Like they do on festivals/ new year etc...
Telemarketing is a very low response rate medium, with the cost going up, it would be unvialble for marketer to use bluk SMS as a medium.

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

Back in college. SMS was the only way to get through to the girls. They would never pick our calls.. So I guess this is injustice to the college going kids at least the guys. 100 SMS is a small figure for them, I know

But seriously TRAI's power has gone to the heads of the Babu's there.

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

Even 100 is too much. When tariffs are 1 paise per second then it makes more sense to talk than spend 1 Rs. On SMS.

The limit should be reduced to 50 to put some control on teenagers. With mobile earphones firmly plugged in their ears and eyes on their phones either reading or writing SMS, They become a traffic hazard sometimes.

Re: TRAI to cap SMS usage at 100 SMSs per day

I voted NO. I am not a student. I am 29 (well, almost :-D), and yet, I send close to 100 SMS everyday. It is easy to chat with friends, because you can do it while watching your favourite programme on tv, or when you are in the loo. And of course, I also forward those silly jokes too.

Some marriages end in divorce! Why dont we petition the government to put a ban on marriages?

Just because few youngsters may cause trouble, does it mean we ban all from doing it? Even if sitting at homes, or their rooms or whatever private space?

In a country where we get the right to vote at the age of 18, do we have to wait till 25 to get the right to send 101+ sms per day?
