I got an sms from IDEA that read "Dear IDEA subscriber, according to TRAI regulations outgoing SMS will be capped at 100 per day from Feb 1 2011"

Now for anyone below 25 years of age,sms is a primary means of communication, with usage exceeding 100 smses even on slow days.

The rule states that you cannot send more than 100smses per day, even if you have the balance

To send 100+sms per day you have to register yourself as a telemarketer with a deposit of 1 lakh :Shockked:

:Frustrati i say

Even I got a similar SMS from Aircel today. Airtel has not sent any SMS on this.

"As per TRAI guidelines, effective from February 01,2011 all subscribers can send only up to 100 sms per day inclusive of local/national/international SMS"

If this initiative is to stop tele-marketing sms then I would call this idea as a stupid one, they should work on something innovative which could differentiate individual customers and tele-marketers.

Just added a poll to the thread to assess the member reaction.

100 SMS's Per Day!!!

I don't send even 5 SMS's per month!!!
I wonder who in the right mind would be really sending so many SMS's per day other than some lame SMS marketeers.

College going students? And you need not be in the wrong mind to send 100+ sms's a day. If so, you should be in the wrong mind even for using IM at work.:)

Thats why i specified the <25 age group.mobile internet is still too expensive for IM-ing on the go

When calls can be made at 1paise/second or lower, why SMS at higher costs? (unless you have a SMS package which offers even cheaper SMS).

Call me old-school but 100 SMS's per day seems an awful lot to me. IMHO I guess it is more than enough to satisfy more than 90% of the mobile users...

Be happy that we in India are not paying for incoming SMS (which is not in your control) as with some operators in Canada. Also the telecom costs in India are amongst the cheapest in the world.

Social IM's (Yahoo, Gtalk...) are anyways banned in most of the organisations I've worked with.

+1 to that. My thought exactly. But yes there are situations when SMS works better than making a call. I also would be doing at the max, except festivals days, not more than 10 SMS's per day.

I favour this ruling as an ordinary subscriber.

Am talking about the internal organization specific IM's. Social or not, how does it matter? Include BBM'ing in that list too.

Why use internal IM's if you can just go directly to the person and talk, given that you both are in the same block?

i got this from airtel.
anyway my existing bulk sms plan had a 100 sms limit anyway.

PS: I have had to send bulk smses ( to 180 students multiple times within a single day)
Thankfully its an official phone , and I dont have to pay for it :D

Voted YES, this will be a beneficial tool in combating marketing msg. bombardment.
Guess my sms usage doesn't exceed 10 a day max.

dont think 1l would be a serious barrier to the guys who run bulk sms services.

Well TRAI is becoming very strict with the NDNC List. One can send transactional SMS but mass SMS will get restricted.

Telemarketers will find loopholes.they will gladly pay the telemarketers fee and continue mass messaging

But SMSES are essential for students to stay in touch with each other, forwarding class timings/delays.exam timings.you cant just sit and call up 60-70 people

There might be people who send 5-10 smses per month.but for youngsters with no source of income its the prime means of communication.100 smses per day might seem a lot to some people but its routine and a time saver for students

Do we like caps on internet usage?theres plenty of spam there too.why target sms?/please:

I find it a pain to SMS. Like a lot of us here I wouldn't even come anywhere near that limit.( errr, I like big buttons, even with a keyboard I like them all spread out, some sort of manufacturing defect on my part :D ). But, Whats with the limit? As though they cant identify the spammers or the advertisers. DND is a joke. Most of the bulk posters do it through websites. Someone forgot college going kids are the main customers, try putting a lock on anything, they will reroute and innovate! LOL :)) VOTED NO.
