What gear have you used to capture these great shots.
What is the Parking slot number you have?

I had parking P8. Picked up the shuttle service to the venue.

Go to the parking area mentioned in your ticket and take the shuttle. They will take you to appropriate gate.

Very difficult to get the view of takeoff/landing unless you have the VIP pass.

The commercial jets are parked right near the barricade which blocks view of the runway.

I used a Nikon D90 + 70-300mm VR combination for all the shots.

This is what I could figure out today in the security check.

Following things are prohibited,
1. Food items, not even water
2. Cigarettes
3. Knife or any sharp objects
4. Bigger bags

What is allowed
1. Camera/camcorder of any size with carry bag (don't worry about the bag size as long as you carry only camera in it)
2. Mobile phones

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Whats this?!! I have been Lurking on the Aeroindia thread on BharatRakshak forum for weeks now and also checked the AeroIndia official site regularly.

I thought Business Visitor was only for bonafide defence related employees, hence I booked only a general visitor pass. Now I find people booking Business Visitor pass!! Now its too late in the day to book as the email might not come in time!!

I am going tomorrow in the morning on my general pass. Just now booked a Biji-nezz visitor pass for saturday. I hope I get the unique ID by tomorrow.

Thank you.

I didn't see at least at the gate I entered.
Also I heard from my friends that the tickets are not available at the venue.
Please don't take it as final. I can check once again tomorrow morning with a reliable source.

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Hey Lovely shots there SJ_Koova. Any pointers about what would be the best place to stand for a good view for photography?? Is it totally impossible to get shots of Take-off and landing? That would be a bummer :(

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

for those who had everything going smooth for them at the Aero India 2011 - bless you!

today just wasn't our day (amitoj and i). apart from meeting on time this morning in front of Columbia Asia, nothing went as per plan! you would have already seen the post from amitoj about the mess at the ticketing counter. well, things just went south after that.

nobody knew what was where! amitoj and i had to drive to and fro (twice) since everyone we asked gave us wrong directions. finally, we decided - screw it! we're gonna walk! and guess what we walked 1.5kms to the venue! again, after standing in the queue for around half hour, we finally could buy ourselves Business Visitor tickets. by now its already past 12pm and the air show is over for the morning session. another 500mts and we reach the static display area.

first order of business - water! after that we went around taking pictures (had to change lenses many times). we then headed to hangar E where we saw lot of stuff from scale models to aviation electronics; HUD to modern combat gear.

headed out again as it was just past 1pm and the air show would start at 2-2:30pm. before entering hangar C we thought we'll do some pet puja! queue up again for that! finally, downing the Chicken Tikka sandwich and our beverages, we headed to the static display area again. slowly, aircrafts started taking to the air and we turned into trigger-happy shutterbugs!

we were there this past 5pm. when nothing more was heading up the air, we thought we'll call it a day! guess what - we've had to walk back all the way (2kms) to our cars.

we left the parking at 6pm and i just reached home past 8pm. btw, met silversteed at Kamanahalli at the signal near KFC.

right now, my body is a house of pain! i've got severe cramps in my left leg and my neck hurts coz of looking up for so many hours! i'm going to go chill now! EOS Utility reports - Transferring 1 of 909! meanwhile, PMB is processing 16 videos!

ciao - see ya laterz!

amitoj - msg me if you reached home safely

PS: spotted two BHPian's cars around the venue - white Swift with LTD on the rear glass and a maroon Palio Stile with LTD on the hatch. who this?

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Yes, with a VIP pass. They have a raised pavilion.

Or if your ticket has access to chalet, you may get the runway view.

I have few pics to give you a perspective.

If you have a business visitor or general vistor pass, this is where you land up. You can walk till the barricade.

Actually you are very close to the runway, but the view is completely blocked by parked jets.

Looks empty on a weekday, but on a weekend it will be packed.

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

amitoj himself had a bazooka! many people asked him if he was from the media and was taking pictures for his company. you should have seen their faces when he told them photography was his hobby

btw, keep an open mind when you reach the venue and don't expect things to go smoothly. weekend is gonna be hectic. even though we reached the venue sharp at 9am, it took us more than 3hrs to get in (due to all the mess created). hope the rest of you don't have to go through the same - fingers crossed!

^^^

Looks like the Canon L series 600 ? The 800mm is even bigger.

And of course there is also the 1200mm lens - doubt anyone here has that !

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Nice shots, sj_koova and Anil.
Mine are still in RAW format. It will take a long time to process them.

To all those going there, i have only one advice. In the famous words of Baz Luhrmann, "Always wear sunscreen"

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

nice pics guys, but looks like most of the planes are the same ones as 2 years ago when i went :(. See a couple new ones like the C130J and the Sukhoi Super Jet. Unfortunetly i will still be in the States and will miss this year's Aero India.

tickets are now available only at the venue (they've stopped selling them at the banks and the malls), but there is confusion about what is sold where. at Gate 8 (P9 AVDA parking) they were selling the 400/- and 500/- tickets. we got the business visitor tickets at Gate 5.

reach the venue early and enquire. the gates are far apart, so if shuttling is required you'll end up spending time there.
