@shajufx: how were you able to get the take offs and landings? where were you located?

Dammit@simulators. Must have been in one of the halls we didnt get time to go to, thanks to the run around we were subjected to.

Yeah i remember asking about the Rafale nozzle but got confused by the triple 0s on it. Do we already have Rafale's in the force?

I think Shaju had the VIP pass and was situated in the pavillion or the red bull area. And i think so did RSimonS, judging by the snaps of take offs etc.

@shaju - great shots, so the best place for take off was the general ticket. Will try it next time.

@kaushik - so close yet so far

@amit - great shots

@redrage - fantastic pics, love the way you captured the sprial

I was among the cattle class, the left side section. I kind of reached the place little early and hence was able to get a place among the front row... But soon kids started lining up in the front and it killed the view. I also had to leave early as my kid was getting irritated

On the way back, I figured that best place was on the roads next to approach area for landing and the fields. Those places were giving a better view of the fighters.

RSimonS,
Your first pic and the pic i posted earlier are almost from identical angles . Did you take this yesterday morning?
Here is a better edited version of my take.

I think I posted about it earlier, I was in the cattle class, on the extreme left where the barbed fencing ends. Best part of that area was, it was controlled by few photographers, not allowing anyone else to block the view. Two of them had elaborate knowledge about each aircraft or fighter including what is going to take off next. So, even the shots and angles could be pre-planned, though I was more interested in learning about the machines on the runway.

Vivek (Fiesta 1.6 Morello), if you are reading this, please PM me, I missed you at the scanning area, could not spot you anywhere later.

Sushanth, if you are reading this, please add me through Facebook or any of the messengers, my ID is the same everywhere.

Re: Aero India 2011 - Airshow in Bangalore

Looks like the general ticket was more worth the money, as far as photography location was concerned. And since not all jets were taking off with the wind, people were able to shoot both landings as well as take offs from the same end.

I wish i could go again, but somehow dont have the energy for a second trip anymore.

A Photologue of Aero India 2011

Hello All,

In celebration of being promoted from Newbie to a full fledged, Official Sticker bearing BHPIAN, thought would contribute to the forum by posting the Photologue of the Aero India Show.

Being a Fighter Plane buff and fortunate enough to reside in Bangalore, I have been to every Airshow since its inception more than a decade ago. The initial few have been watched from the tank bed next to the Yelhanka Airforce Station, over time the crowds grew to such unmanageable proportions that this was no longer a option. We have now been forking our incremental sums of money in buying tickets, every two years and watching the show from the Viewers Area within the AF Station.

The Spanking New Bengaluru International Airport Road, that is already inadequate to take the traffic to BIAL, bursts at the proverbial seams over the week that this Air-show is held.

Being the quintessential Bangalorean, I had left the purchase of the Tickets for the last moment therefore when the Office Guy was sent to procure some last thursday, (in order to watch the show on Friday, as no sane person would think of taking on the gauntlet of the traffic both vehicular and human over the weekend shows) he returned empty handed with the information that tickets were as of that day available only at the AF Station.

With no options left and a lot of cajoling to friends we agreed to leave our homes at 0700 Hrs and meet at a common place. We were at the venue by 0730 Hrs all looked reasonably calm and controlled with only one hitch.

The Traffic Police did not allow you to park anywhere on the road / side road or service road.

The AF Authorities did not allow you to enter and park in AF Station without the Tickets.

The Ticket counter was inside the AF Station and would open only at 0900 hrs, however there was already of Q of over a hundred enthusiasts.

The closest general parking was about 4 Kms away and man I had no volunteers to stand in the Q.

Well we did what had to be done and after parking the car, huffed and puffed our way back and got our tickets at about 0945 hrs, just enough time to quick march to the viewing area as the show starts at 1000 hrs.

The Pictures posted here were taken by me with my Canon EOS 50 D with a 100-400 IS L Lens, using a UV Filter and the static display shots were taken using the new Sony NEX 5K Camera which is a beauty. I took over 600 snaps over the morning and part of the afternoon shows.

Was burnt to a crisp in the process, by the evening had stopped having all feeling in the feet, my calf muscles were cramped, my back stiff and arms a total write-off after hauling the heavy camera around the whole day.

We survived on 'Maaza' and Coffee the whole day but man I am going to back again in 2013 February for the next show.

Watching these extreme machines perform is a adrenalin rush like no other, to feel the power of their engines as they lift these unstable mass of metal to the skies and perform if an experience of a life time.

The back slide of the Sukhoi 30 MKI still makes your hair stand on end.

I hope you all enjoy this photologue and all your comments are welcome and looked forward to and are the reason I am posting the Photologue here.

Cheers.

Manmohan.

Re: A Photologue of Aero India 2011

Congrats Manmohan for the Bhpian Tag!!

Just a suggestion and hope you take it positively. It would have been nice if you would have given the name/type of each aircraft along with the pic you have posted. You are well versed with each bird but some of us wont be.

Neverthless the pics are great, post more if you have!!

EDIT: With names!!!
