got my third pair of hush puppies today - sandals - to replace my first pair - they'd lasted over 2 years of rough use.
the second one, a pair of shoes did not last long. the rats in our house liked them more than i did

I'd never thought I'd feel this way about footwear, but I've never worn anything as comfortable as these

Hi guys,

I am planning to start running a parcours (obstacle) trail. Which mostly means I will be running on uneven wet ground, dirt, fallen tree branches etc. Most probably I won't be doing high speeds. I may also be doing it in sub zero temperatures in winters.

What should I look for? regular running shoes? hiking shoes? anything else?

I prefer dark colors. A link from amazon.com will be highly appreciated.

thanks vikram, unless you tell me there is a (snob?) value in inov-8, I will probably stick to new balance/adidas .

keen wasatch (new name again), seems to top this list.

Snob value might be only amongst other trail runners It's pretty much a specialized brand and regular sports people won't even recognize it.
I'm not such a big fan of either New Balance or Adidas. Their products in India aren't all that great, but to be fair, the choice isn't that vast either. Adidas and Puma simply look too dated; nothing really different from 2 decades ago. For me, Nike is no.1, followed by Reebok, for regular use. I know New Balance and Adidas do make some good specialized shoes, so if you like any, go for it!

I'm not really a trail runner (strictly pavement and treadmill only), but I know Nike has their ACG (All Climate Gear) range of trail running shoes. New Balance also has a trail running line. I once had a pair of New Balance trail running shoes (bought in Canada, I don't think they were available in India then) that I used for both ordinary casual wear and for occasional running on Bangalore's unpaved, muddy and potholed pavements , and boy were those shoes durable! They lasted me more than five years. Really comfortable as well, if a bit heavy. Merrell, Mizuno and Brooks are other brands that I have heard are good for trail running.

This is one of the ways people make money.

Good shoes loose structure within a week and get adjusted to your foot dimensions. Bad shoes retain structure and damage your foot (trying to modify your foot to its structure ).

I have to cram my feet into size 13 (US) coz thats the biggest size available, that too if I search hard! I had been comfortably wearing size 14 Reeboks that i got from outside india three years back. But sadly, now their sole had started to come off and besides, i was getting bored with them as well.
After trying numerous places, finally found a shop where i got to try out some size 13s. So, picked up two pairs, both Nike. One is Air Max something and the other i dont even know. But, if the shoe fits, then i will wear it, as i dont have a choice.

Completely agree Greenhorn. Got my 4th pair of Hush Puppies this weekend. These ones are the lightest I have worn so far and very comfortable (as usual). Costed me Rs 3699
