Ohhh you got stuck in that mess... that's unfortunate. It happened a few minutes before I went to Mumbai in the morning. The container was a Hyundai one, and had fallen in the Mula river. Fortunately I managed to bypass it today. I had posted it in the accidents thread.

OT: What is current driver's salary in Pune? Looking for driver for my wife's car. Also wanted to know what kind of background verification/police verification is required before employing a driver.

I will keep an eye on this. I may be better off changing my profession

The last I remember, driver salary in Pune was Rs. 8000 (2011 figures).

Off-topic, have you guys taken your kids to Peshwa Energy Park in Pune. Awesome park! How come no one told me about that so far?
If you have a kid between 3 and 10, then you must take him/ her there.

re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Why has the lane expansion work on the NH4 bypass completely stopped , save for the mini-bridge/flyover ?
Also, I think the one after Chandani Chowk at Bavdhan will probably not solve any problems, because most of the congestion happens about a hundred meters down the road, at Crystal Honda junction. There is an illegal break in the road, and it sometimes takes upto 10 minutes to cross it in the mornings.

re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Puneites,

Recently had been to Pune and found that the crossing to access Sinhagad Road from NH4 after the Warje Flyover has been closed and I had to go all the way upto the next flyover taking the route below it to access the Sinhagad Road. Any particular reason why this crossing has been closed?

I could not find any sign but wifey told me she did see a small signboard indicating no U turning.

you could have taken the left immediately after the flyover ends to reach Sinhagad road.
Though I am not really sure if that is allowed. somebody else can confirm that!

Edit: I havent been there in ages, so no idea
^^

There is a road to the left of the flyover but thats a one way although the road is used as bidirectional mostly by the bikers. The road is small for it to be two way.

The left turn is not allowed any more. You have to go ahead straight ahead and then take a right turn at the circle and then drive back on the bypass and then take the left exit to Sinhgad road(so this is the right side of the bypass when you are driving from Chandani Chowk to Sinhgad road)). Although, as ghodlur mentioned, 99% people dont follow rules and do whatever they want to do.

There is some work going on between Chandani Chowk to Warje.

The congestion near Crystal Honda showroom has increased recently as other crossing is closed for flyover construction. I hope after flyover is operational, they will close this crossing near Crystal Honda.

re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Quick question.
When was the new bridge at Bund Garden (parallel to the Yerwada old bridge) constructed?

My Sygic - MapMyIndia maps still do not show that bridge even after the latest update.

Does anyone have a GPS map which shows that bridge? I would like to know which provider.
(Google Maps shows that bridge, by the way).

Google maps even shows the road that comes from Golf course towards Sangamwadi, though it is not shown as complete, but the fact is it is complete, but operational only in one way.

I pass through this bridge daily for my regular office commute. Can't recollect the exact time when it was thrown open to public, but it must have been operational for 4-5 months now

This bridge got operational in 2nd week of December 2011. Wonder why it doesn't show up in GPS maps after so many months.

re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Thank you everyone. I have sent feedback to MMI.
Will be interesting to see when they update the maps.

Looking for a nice picnic spot for team + family outing in December.
Should not be more than 2 hours drive from Pune and there should be something for kids as well as grownups.

Is there some nice open place near Mulshi lake where we could play football or cricket?
