Re: Newer Rotting Cars

At a time when people on a budget could only purchase small and cramped hatchbacks like the Maruti 800 and the Maruti Zen, Hyundai, a new player in the market then, played a masterstroke by introducing the "tall boy" Santro. Tall people who found the size of the 800 and the Zen too cumbersome, now had a car built perfectly for their size! The Santro cemented Hyundai's position in the Indian market, and the rest is history.

Most of the earlier Zip Drives now stand abandoned since they've all completed 15 years of age, and their owners couldn't care less about their renewal of fitness or payment of road tax again. Thus, they are found in small lanes and bylanes, a mere shadow of their former selves.

Two good things about this car:
(1) Quarter glasses on fornt windows indicates that its is a pre- Nov 1987 model.
(2) A honeycomb front grille that is rare to find. These were fitted in some Padminis as OE, but are rare to find now.

Re: Newer Rotting Cars

On my drive to Kodaikanal in April and May, 2019 I came across this rusting, rotting, abandoned car on the hills. I'm not sure how it got to being there. I saw it in April and also in May - looks like it has been abandoned for good. I wonder if it was abandoned after an accident. Its an unusual place as it is in the hills.

Here is a short video clip showing where it is abandoned:

That looks like a strong possibility. The body shell is reasonably on shape but the paint, windows and tyres are gone.

Re: Newer Rotting Cars

Spotted in a locality in Dumdum, Kolkata. My friend who lives there told me it's moved around from one spot to another in the same neighbourhood, but hasn't been driven extensively in quite some time. The car looked quite sporty with blackened head and tail lamps and red brake callipers.

Mondeo was one of the best looking car of its time, or even today for that matter. If I remember correctly it even won awards for looks.

Sad to see it sit like this, not sure if it's rotting though. It looks to be taken good care of when compared to the Mondeos I see for sale on olx, quikr, etc.,

Hope someone gets their hands on this luxury barge and renew it's life.

It's certainly driveable, but it's been sitting in that place for some time now. A quick search on OLX also throws up the same car and needless to say, if the owner is actually looking for that price, no one will buy it and it'll die a painful death.

Re: Newer Rotting Cars

Dear Mr. Anjan,
I am a team bhp member from Lucknow, a retired mechanical engineer, and a vintgae car enthusiast. I own two Fiat 500 Topolinos, a SV A model of 1948, a ohv C model of 1951, a Fiat 1100 of 1956, an Austin Chummy of 1929, and a Standard 12 of 1934. I am specialised in engine restoration, and difficult mechanical repairs.

I am writing to you because you seem to have a good eye for vintage vehicles lying around. I am especially interested in buying for restoration a small rear engined Fiat car. It can be a Fiat 500 Nuovo(1957-1972), A Fiat 126 or 126p( polski Fiat) both of which had two cylinder air cooled rear engine. Or it could be a Fiat 600 or Mutipla, both of which also had rear engines, but 4 cylinder water cooled. I would also be interested in a Renault 4CV rear engined car.

I am troubling you because you posted photos of a Fiat 126 in Nagpur, where I understood you live. Is this car still there ? If so, I request you to kindly find out if the owner is willing to sell it and get me in touch with him. The number of the car is MH-31-BB-8715. Giving below some photos posted by you-

I will consider it a personal favour and deeply appreciate your help.
