I was expecting something totally different! The issue you've mentioned Kiran, happens with all the mats. After the car washer cleaned the interiors one day, I took the car for a drive. And the clutch got stuck. The damn thing remained pressed. It was coming off only when I pressed it hard. Stuck in the crazy Silk Board traffic, I had no option of pulling over. I called A.S.S. and they said, the clutch plate might have been fried or the bearings gone etc etc. I crossed Silk Board, pulled over and realized the pedal was getting stuck in the mat! Talk about anti-climax. Only diff between your case and mine - mine went to the Driving Typos! :D Jokes apart, this is a very serious thing. Brake or accelerator getting stuck can get disastrous. Having the mats tied up is very crucial; I've seen some (on VW IIRC) which have the a push-button type arrangement. Ensuring the mats remain stationary is something we should all look into seriously. |

Do these mats not come with spikes underneath? |

Oh man. I would have easily mowed down a few people if it had happened somewhere near a pedestrian crossing. Thank god it happened on the outer ring road. |

You know what, just now I recollected that 4 yrs ago a similar thing had happened to me when we were driving to Kodaikanal and doing the climb in our Ford Ikon 1.6NXT ZXI when all of a sudden the small water bottle that I had kept next to me fell and got stuck under the break. I had to pull over and immediately engage the handbrake to remove it before starting again. I was lucky that I was on the ascend rather than the descend. |

Friends, I reached home safely after ensuring that the mat is set correctly and the pedal movement is smooth without any blockings :). Cheers, Kiran |

This may sound silly, but can the raised ends be cut/shaved off around the accelerator pedal area to prevent such incidents inspite of velcro or ties. |

Very scary incident indeed. Shocked to hear this incident with Kagu 3D mats. They are actually made to fit in the size perfectly and first time I am hearing about this with them. You get two varieties of this mat, one with velcro kind of base and one without. I have both varieties, without velcro in Laura and with it on Polo. Polo one just doesn't move but the Laura one does. Thankfully, Laura has the A pedal suspended from the floor (like in Civic) and thus doesn't get in the way. Polo has normal pedals, this kind of a thing might happen there. I suggest you contact your mat supplier and swap the driver side with velcro base. |

This scenario is quite possible with mats with raised edges and hanging throttle pedals. Does the city have hanging down throttle pedals? In case of floor pivoted throttle pedals i guess this wouldn't have happened. But then with floor pivoted pedals the mats could ride up if the leading edge happens to be over the edge. |

kiran would you please post pictures of the mat and the gas pedal, as it would be easier for us to have a look and take the necessary precautions? Its good that you emerged unscathed after the ordeal. |

Kiran, Good to know that there were no incidents because of the mats issue. Could you please post some pictures if possible so that we can take care of this kind of problems. Is there any way the floor mats can be fixed to the floor so that they do not move while we are driving? After all when we pay such premium for the products, why should safety aspects be compromised? I had faced similar incident my civic ones! Now, the aftermarket mats are only for the passengers seats. I have seen Hyundai cars with some locking arrangement of the mats but they don't last long due to continuous feet movement. The Velcro that comes with the mat does nothing. |

I have a Ford Figo EXI and have 2 round plastic things with a oval hole in the middle that looks like a locking mechanism on each of the Mats in the front. There is nothing on the car to fasten this to. Can some one confirm if this is actually a locking mechanism? |

Thanks Kiran for the pictures. Attachment 819377 I believe if the manufacturer of the 3D Mats could redesign the driver side mat and remake the hatched portion that is dangerous, replacing it with softer material. Alternatives like: (1) Preferably a very soft material should be used, replacing the hatched portion and stitched with the main mat (driver's side only). This soft material will be incapable of using undue influence :) on the gas pedal. OR (2) The driver's side mat can have at least two strong Velcro fixtures to fasten the mat with the driver's seat frame. These Velcro fixtures can be placed on the aft side of the 3 D mat and affixed with the metal frame of the seat below the cushion. |
