I thought this was a thread where people share their experiences of road rage. Why are we going after the people who have shared their experiences? People make mistakes, hopefully all of us learn from the mistakes and sharing those mistakes on this forum is like education to others as to what could go wrong. We should not be judgmental (I guess I am being one as well).

Sorry for the OT, but the last two pages have just been that.

Its about first principles. For whatever reason you hit a vehicle - you stop and atleast check or at the bare minimum acknowledge your mistake. Your post ignored that.

Remember in this case our man had been giving enough indications of what he was doing - its not like he suddenly did a stoppie in traffic and came from 60-0 without warning. What happened was the i10's doing only.

Its perfectly fine to hypothesize but any scenario should assume courteous road use.

Yes i read it again and somehow dont see it because my post was not about whether the car driver was in the wrong or not OR what he should have done or not. It was about whether GeneralJazz overreacted or not. I think he absolutely did but fails to see it. So I wont say any more on this. You can't wake up a person who is sleeping with his eyes closed. Maybe time will mellow him down and make him more restrained.

As for my post, you obviously took it out of context just like I would if i said that your post supports throwing helmets at cars if the driver does not acknowledge his mistake. Because you didnt explicitly criticize it!

So let us not take things out of context and stick to the topic at hand. Road rage confessions. Although like someone else said, this thread seems to be turning into a bragging thread.

So, here's one of my stories about a rage scenario avoided:

It was a nice sunny January morning in 2014. Decided to take advantage of the weather and took my bike out.
I was due to leave for UK soon, so wanted a last spin on my mad Yamaha before I let go of her.
It was a usual friday morning Bangalore traffic. Most people travelling to work, just like me.I was enjoying revving the puny mill at 10k+rpm. Guess the air filter was playing up as I hadnt taken her out for months. So, some splutters in between. I didn't realize that the brake bite was not as sharp as well.
The maroon i20 in front of me had to brake suddenly, probably due to someone scurrying around on the road. My bike decided to give me a dollop of power at the same moment and the brakes wanted a piece of the fun as well and decided to pack up.
I was headed straight for the i20 boot, swerved in the last moment, yet couldn't prevent the clutch lever hitting the corner of the boot with my cf gloved finger trapped in between. Yes, there was a dent.
I had an empty stretch ahead of me and I could have ridden off (yeah! the thought crossed my mind!). However, I put myself in the driver's shoes.
Pulled up parallel to the driver side in the traffic and asked him to pull over.

Noticed Flipkart parking sticker and laptop bag in the car.
Yes, he was furious.
First things first : I apologized. Yes, it was my mistake.
Then shared my mobile number and asked him to give me a call. (this to show that I am not giving him a bogus number) and noted down his details.
Asked him to get it fixed and pass the bill to me and suggested a few garage. Advised him not to go to the HASS as A.S.S generally overcharged on such minor dent/paint stuff.
We had a nice chat about flipkart marketing and after a quick smoke/tea session, bid each other good bye and moved on.
Yes, he did call me back with the estimates and I did ask him to go ahead and share his bank details with me so that I could transfer the money to him. He never called back after that.
At any point, neither of us had to go into an argumentative mode or play the blame game.I mean, I was at fault. It was my fault that I did not maintain my ride properly and my fault that I did not anticipate the braking distance.

Moral: A lot of unwanted animosity and rage can be managed if we are humble enough to accept our fault(and share a smoke lol:)

This was never a bragging thread. Some people deliberately kept bringing that point while ignoring the obvious danger the driver put others in. Not taking things out of context applies to everyone. We all agree that I've over reacted so theres really no point in bringing that up again and again, unless you gain some pleasure in bashing others. Else this arguments would go in cirlces, if it isnt whats happening already. Disregard for others safety is the issue here, whether people like to acknowledge it or not. Any more comments and counter comments on this issue are redundant.

@GeneralJazz,
No intention of further argument. Just a few points -

1> I was an avid biker for 10 years and I have travelled most of South India on bike.
2> I am not saying the car driver was not at fault. He sure was guilty. I am just giving some possible reasons as to why he might not have agreed to roll down the windows and talk to you. It's highly possible he was scared of getting manhandled.
3> What you did was an extreme reaction. It's glad to hear that you clearly accept that and hopefully you will tone it down in the future.
I think lot of the posts in this thread was due to the fact that your comments did not seem to reflect that you really felt bad about what you did.
We all have done something wrong in our life. The key is to acknowledge your fault and improve as a human being.

Wanted to share one more incident.

This happened in the first week of January 2015. I had to give my car for its first free service at Advaith Hyundai, Bannerughatta Road (BG Road). After dropping the car off and completing the necessary formalities, I decided to take an auto home (JP Nagar 7th Phase). After being rejected by several autos, one guy decided to take me home. This guy was a pretty big guy, propably in his 50s, looked like a decent guy to me.

As we started from Advaith, we were crossing the SPAR Hypermarket, when a red colour Skoda Octavia overtakes from the left in the narrow gap, hit the fender of the auto almost toppling the auto. I hold on for dear life and somehow the auto guy managed to bring it back to its position. This Skoda guy zooms off. Other bikers and passerby's yell at the Skoda guy to no avail. :Shockked:

So my auto guy decides to give a chase. We follow the Skoda guy who nearly knocks down another couple on a bike swerves right and heads towards Tilaknagar passing by the Sagar Hospital. We keep the chase going. I'm now beyond angry (remember my old post - im extremely short tempered). I can't wait to kick this guy where it hurts most, but it was not to be. As we reached the first junction, the Skoda guy takes the left. We catch up and are now following him through the road where there is the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. He gets held up in traffic, when we overtake him and stop in front of him.

Now the shocking part. Before the auto guy could even get off, two guys get out of the Skoda and start beating the auto guy black and blue:Shockked:. I get off the auto and throw punches to both of them. One of them falls down. The other manhandles me (I'm not that big you know - I'm 5'8"), pulls me by my collar and asks me to stay out of it. I throw another punch straight to his nose. One more in the car puts out his cigarette, arrives and tries to kick me and the auto guy. He slips and falls and I land him a punch and two kicks.

Now while all this is happening, the other auto guys come up, many two wheelers join up and try to keep us apart. All the while I'm yelling at these 3 as to "Why the heck did you lay your hands on us??? You could've spoken first, laying hands was wrong". People call the cops and we follow the cheetah to the nearest Tilaknagar police station. The cops ask us to settle amonst ourselves. The SI tells me not to get involved in this matter and lets me go. He offered me some water and asked me if I needed a ride home.

I called up my friend, who took me to Shanti Nursing Home in 4th block to get my lacerations on my fist stitched up. Some minor bruises looked at and lip lacerations stitched up.

Just before leaving, the auto guy thanks me for helping him.

Now I know that I over-reacted. I propably shouldn't have bashed these people. I have a habit of doing that, I tried controlling my anger, but it seems it gets the better of me. I always land a punch first and then talk. Now here clearly the guys in the Skoda were at the wrong end. They shouldn't have started a physical fight with the auto guy. Yes, got a sound verbal thrashing at home too. Just wanted to know what my fellow BHP-ians would've done in a similar situation ???

Regards,
Aniketh

I would've asked the Rick driver to let it go and forget it. If he pursued, I would've asked him to pull over and take another Rick home.

I would've done anything but get involved in somebody else's brawl. :)

 ... and you're a dentist. I know we have a license to break people's teeth, but only with their informed consent.

What you really need is anger management lessons, followed by some common sense classes.

So did you fulfil your wish, or was it just facial type fight only ? :D

On a serious note, like Added_flavor said above, I would have tried to cool down the auto driver to let it go and if he didn't agree, paid him his money, got down and taken another rick home. :thumbs up

I don't think my profession has anything to do with what I did ?!?!? I didn't want to get into a fight if not for these morons who straightaway starting bashing up the auto driver NOR did I start the fight. Like I said, I propably over-reacted, should've just let it go. I'm a lot calmer now. I dont get angry that often.

Agreed. Would've done the same thing, if it happened now. But at that moment, he wasn't willing to do anything else, but chase the skoda down.

It was in the heat of the moment, didn't want to get into a fight at all. I was much calmer than before.

But thanks again everybody. I agree I over-reacted severely. I could've completely avoided the whole thing. I'm sure I'll handle such situations better now.

Aniketh,

"I always land a punch first and then talk". Isn't that what the Skoda guys did? It's like coming face to face with yourself :)
This is a confession thread; so it's good that you shared here. I skipped to the first post to see if there's an intro on what this thread is about.None.
I don't think this thread should be just about confessions; Then it'll just be a list of incidents. Along with the confession it'd be good if we learnt something from it and how we're going to contain that rage.
I say that because after some time, these incidents look silly and "oh!-I-shouldn't-have-reacted-like-that". But then, some times things can get nasty and out of hand; then the time to retrospect may not come forever.

My family, especially my mother and sister thrash me too. I don't understand their logic (the same logic is put up here too) that advocates to let go of someone who, due to their fault, cause a harm / endanger the lives and property of others and instead of apologizing, back it up by arrogant behavior.

Had the Skoda driver got down after he hit you and apologized you and the rickshaw driver, that would have been a welcome gesture. But he sped off to hit another couple and started assaulting you two at first when you caught him. Then what you did is an act of self defense and is your legal right. May be, you also helped to avoid a probable further incident of hit and run.

What damage was caused by the Skoda? Please, no ifs & buts. Yes, he was wrong and with proper evidence could have landed in jail. But you see, the cops too didn't do anything.

Were the damages enough to justify your action? And that auto guy, in his 50's would have seen much more of this.

Whatever you did, could Skoda guy's action be reversed? I don't get into altercations simply because whatever damage is caused by someone unknowingly cannot be reversed even if judiciary hangs him/her.

And you [& couple of other guys here] think that being violent or breaking someone's nose will have a soothing effect and will resurrect him/her?

Will you guys take on a guy who has mastered levels of karate, has balck-belt/whatever, is possessing arms and knows a bit of boxing and isn't afraid for a public brawl? Or any local political party hero having 5 thugs for company?

Think before you act, actions & words can't be reversed :)

Well said, Sheel. Agree with you 100%

Another thing that I am wondering is, how many more lives are put at risk when people start "giving chase" through crowded streets just to catch up to someone who brushed them and didn't stop?

The rules on the Karnataka RTO website seem to suggest GeneralJazz was in the right (no pun intended :)) to try and turn the way he did.

http://rto.kar.nic.in/roadsafetycss.html

Turning to the Left and Right:

The driver of a motor vehicle shall:

When turning to the right draw as near as near as may be to the centre of the road which the driver is entering.

Exactly! A road should be divided into lanes, slow on the left most lane, medium and high speed (even in city roads). Ideally there should be a separate lane for vehicles turning right at all junctions. In a place where there is no seperate lane for turning right, the vehicle must be close to the left of the centre line that divides the road and turn when vehicles are not coming in from the opposite direction. Unfortunately no one follows this lane concept in our place and we think dissecting the road from the left most lane into the intersection is the ideal way!!

am i correct?:)
