Re: Puzzle Parking System

In case of such systems installed in the society, does one has to leave his or her car key with society driver(s)? Can anyone who has implemented such a parking in their society comment? People like me are not keen to hand over keys to any valet etc. Modern societies due to dearth of parking capacity seem to be having such features.

There are two types of stack parking systems - independent & dependent.

If you have an independent stack system, the lower stack/s go into an underground pit allowing the cars on the higher rung to be removed without moving other vehicles.
In a dependent stack system, the lower cars need to be removed to have the upper level vehicle taken out.

If in your society you have an independent system - then no need to give keys to the watchman.

However, if you have a dependent system then yes - either you will have to go move the car each time the upper stack vehicle needs to be moved; or give the keys to the valet / watchman to move around.
Another alternative for you is to swap your vehicle and park it in the higher level so you can keep the keys with you, whereas the neighbor who now has the lower stack gets the advantage of being able to drive in and out without waiting for your car to be moved out first.

Most modern societies have puzzle or stack parking as you rightly said. Puzzle parking is a more independent version where the whole process is automated. Drive your car into the bay, get out, and the bay is moved by the machine as needed. Hubtown at Breach Candy / Mahalaxmi Mandir has a puzzle parking system implemented.

Re: Puzzle Parking System

Here is a video illustrating various types of these systems. Choose the one you find the most apt for your office.

At the risk of sounding stupid, have you thought of this (if not already discussed and ruled out due to paucity of space)?

The cars can be parked on the ground, and the bikes on the top - which they can access through a ramp, which can be slightly steeper and narrower than that required for a car. The model may look like this -

=____________=
/ |C1|C2|C3|C4| \
/.........................\

(/ represents the ramp)

No maintenance will be needed once the structure is in place and length of the car will ensure that the bikes can be parked parallel with enough space to go in and out.

Re: Puzzle Parking System

I live in Mumbai and we have the independent stack system where one need not keep keys with the security guy. Each car can we bought to the ground level to be driven out. It's an extremely efficient system and saves a lot of space. It's a stack of 5 or 2.

The only thing is, one should ensure the car is parked perfectly inside the slot and it's easy getting used to it. Also, the company that has installed it are extremely responsive if ever any slot gets stuck due to some issue either in the hydraulics or the motors.

This interesting technology existed since early 1900. Built by the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, 1936.
