Not very obvious from the picture, but were there Reliance markings/stickers on the Scorp?

Can't think of a reason why Reliance might do it. May be some obscure subsidiary of Reliance might have been contracted by Google.

yeah there were reliance stickers on the car. Saw a scorpio a couple of months back near my place too.

May be reliance is coming up with their own maps of major cities like Bangalore , Delhi etc . Must wait and watch.

I have spotted two Scorpios here in Kolkata at two different locations.

They both had "Reliance" written on paper stuck on the windscreen as seen in the picture.

Re: Reliance "Street-View" cars doing the rounds?

Spotted a similar Scorpio (same colour and model) in Manimajra, Chandigarh three days ago. So, it seems that the mapping is not just constrained to Metros only.
If this indeed is a street view mapping car, then I think my car just earned a place in the virtual world as it was pictured(filmed?) by this Scorp!

Regards,
Jaspreet Singh

I have spotted a Scorpio with similar equipment and with Reliance Stickers on it here in Mumbai as well a few days back near Seepz. Was wondering at the time what they were upto?

It might be the vidteq guys. The direction map makers. They have a good driving direction video for Bangalore.

Re: Reliance "Street-View" cars doing the rounds?

I am not sure now if these are Reliance street-view cars roaming around.

Spotted the below one on LBS going from Gandhi Nagar junction to Bhandup. But they are on MCGM Duty which means the activity being done by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai - MCGM.

This could be a government initiative to map the cities and given to various agencies or done by various government bodies.

I hope that photograph the streets and are these are then used to remove the encroachments to allow the pedestrians to walk on the footpath meant for walking and not setting up shop.

Re: Reliance "Street-View" cars doing the rounds?

I saw a similar looking Scorpio in Gurgaon 10-12 days ago but I am not sure if it had any reliance logo or not.

It was on a very small back lane near my home which can only be 3rd , 4th or 5th priority of any map-maker organization.

Either the Scorpio was going from point A to B without mapping or they are going for way too much detailed maps.

Re: Reliance "Street-View" cars doing the rounds?

As correctly pointed out by agspins, these vehicles are owned by a Mumbai based company - Genesys International and these were deployed for the Reliance 4G project. The imagery is used for planning purposes for OFC planning drawing that are provided to the implementation contractors.
